You all are doing great work on the house. And from an old hard Vietnam War guy, thank you for taking care of the cat. You did the right thing. Thank you.

Nothing like advice nearly two years late. Clamp the level to a long board to make a long level :)

you can generally take or notch out a 1/4 to a 1/3 (max) of a framing member and it still be strong. May have to sister up, add extra support via hangers or plates or even add blocking to strengthen the cut area. I did our bathroom and had to block out a square to allow the toilet pipe to be installed. Neither the toilet nor the floor has moved since...

Although your home looked beautiful before you started demo, your home was really in need of being rebuilt. You saved a beautiful home that will last another 200 years.

Thinking about all u went through to get the floor as level as possible is pretty amazing when u consider exactly what was available in 1806. They had to hand cut their wood unless they had money then they could use the early milling system. Tools were very limited as compared to all the gadgets r available now. That house is solid and well built to be standing this long. They gave u a great foundation and now u can bring that beauty into the 21st century. U own it but ur also the caretaker for future generations.

i Like to have a couple of sheets of strong plywood to use as a base while working on open areas, makes your feel safe which increases your efficiency. Although I've seen carpenters walk joists and headers/ beams like spiderman...
@1806StoneHouse5 жыл бұрын
Cat like reflexes 😂😂 much safer to use the plywood...

I'm a new subscriber and I started at the beginning of the remodel and have been watching the videos in order. I like the longer videos where you show us more of the actual process instead of skipping from before to after.

Ya. A lot of my edits are different from time to time.. really depends on what I record.. I try to record everything I can.. but, sometimes it’s just not easy to do.. thus, each video can be a little or a lot different 😃 I like sharing either way 😃

Great, great, Great video. I loved the screw trick on the other side of the chimney to ensure that things are level. Very informative. Love the videos where you go into so much details.

mandingoteck dailey thank you.. these things and situations are hard to explain sometimes..
@mandingoteckdailey52356 жыл бұрын
Yes, things are definitely hard to explain sometimes. That is why your videos where you both explain and actually show how and why you are doing something are like gold for someone who has not built anything before. As I watch your videos, I get a little bit more confidence to actually to build or remodel something. Keep pushing out videos like these. Personally, from what I can remember, this is one of the most informative videos on house repair i have seen on youtube. When I get time , i'm going to have to watch all your videos again and see if there was another one that contained so much great detail and information as this one did . Again, this video was excellent.

Yea, you were just questioning if you were just ruining the house tearing it apart...and I get that when you go back and look at the 'before' photos. But when you see how far off the fundamental structure is...without a doubt, you did the right thing. I'm enjoying the series and try to watch 3-5 at a time.
@1806StoneHouse5 жыл бұрын
Thank you.. I appreciate that.. in the beginning it definitely did seem fine and totally livable.. we have definitely made it way more structural and I’m sure once finished it should be way more efficient too.. thank you 😃

Would a structural post in the basement have helped at the location you point to at 10:34? I wonder if the summer beam will just sag more over the years, making the floor unleveled again.
@1806StoneHouse5 жыл бұрын
This section of the floor ends up being the most over-built floor ever... haha. There are many new (and some old) supports in the basement. If /when we get around to doing the basement floor we may replace the old supports in this section. currently this part has a cement floor. great idea.

no old house has level floors. They weren't too worried about level or plumb, just floors under their feet and a roof over their heads as cheaply as they could afford to build their homes.

I hate to say this but when I look at all the space above the beams I sure hope you put insulation, all I can think of is a mouse maze.
@1806StoneHouse7 жыл бұрын
lol! well, I don't know if I can build a house that is totally mouse proof.. haha.. i get what you're saying.. that area should be walled off. But, a mouse can fit in a hole that is 1/2 inch wide..it's hard to plan for that... we're a "mouse safe" house.. :)
