18650 - Part 13 - Solder Fume Extractor

Welcome to another episode of Sailing and Electronics. In this video we are going to show the use of a fume extractor for soldering, and why it is a good idea for your health.
Especially when soldering alot, eg. battery packs for a powerwall.
The item used is a Chinese copy, but since the simplicity of such a device, I'm confident in my choice. If you like DIY, it is very easy to make one yourself. All you need is a powerfull pc fan and a carbon filter.

Can you share a link for the tinned fuse wire? Most I found on Ali are enameled. Looking forward to the next videos.

Did you consider spotwelding instead of soldering the cells?

Yes, but I like to keep the budget as low as possible. Also rather difficult with glass fuses I think.

First of are you Dutch??? Just a small correction while soldering you won't inhaling lead fumes the boiling point of lead is something like 1500 or 1700 c way way more than any thing you'll be seeing. So don't worry about that. The smoke that you see is the rosin in your solder still it's all to good a simple fan will do. Lastly the filter there is not a carbon filter and it's not impregnated carbon filters don't work like this. I have a carbon filter in my kitchen ventilation system that is very thick
