18650 - Part 14 - Soldering the cells

In this episode, we solder the cells on positive and negative side.
This makes all the 80 cells into a huge battery of 3.6 volts with capacity of 180+ Ah . (2.2Ah average per cell)

How about Pt. 15? One thing I like to share with you; I understood you judge the quality of the cells also on the Internal Resistance. I found that the Opus charger return way higher figures for the Ri than other chargers like Liitokola 500 & XTAR Dragon. See this video for a comparision kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIaWmYiYpNCYZ8U. I have aswell the Opus and the Liitokalo, my findings; the Opus gives about double value for Ri on the same cell.

I think you didn't clean up the surfaces first, from the remaining spotwelding points? With a grinder or dremel? How much Watt is de soldering iron? I saw it on Ali for about € 37 but no wattage in the specs. Is it a god buy? Spare tips available?

KaeL, wattage not sure, but great iron if you buy a different tip as I did . That way you can create bigger surface contact.

KaeL, I did not removed the spotweld points. I tried a batch, but did not see advantage, on the contrary, the thin metal surface is even made even (minimal) thinner by removing the spotwelds. When soldered, the solder goes round it without problems.

KaeL, cleaning surface has little use since solder will go under and around. Not sure about wattage. Think I mentioned in my clip about solder iron.

Didn't buy any, all salvaged, most from electric bikes. If you want to buy nkon.nl is trustworthy and cheap. Whatch out with aliexpress and alike...

If you want to redo your bike battery, use the opportunity to buy bigger capacity ones. Same size, same weight but more miles 👍
