I'm not an avid ham radio person, but I became a licensed operator back in 2017. I bought my equipment off of eBay (It is good equipment all have been certificated as operable and in excellent shape). this equipment is old school Kenwood, not digital. The one thing the class never taught was how to choose the proper antennas. I have talked to a couple people but no one can give me a definitive answer as to what I need. the receivers and then the transmitters. type of antennas, loads. tuning, meters ect. Looking for a book that explains it all in minute details that shows the different hookups and cabling.

I stand by my recommendation to use, or at very least investigate, Breedlove mounts. I’ve not had much luck on 6M with my baby Tarheel 2. I just stuck the extended whip on the top and say tough rocks to 6M.

I love my Breedlove ball mounts for my HF antennas. Nothing like solid brass and thick aluminum (with gaskets for dissimilar metal issues) and different feed options. SO239 or ring terminal at the mount or a length of delrin insulator with its own ring terminal screws. Don't forget grounding though lol.

Very good video, with lots of valuable information! The new Ford F-150's have an aluminum roof, so a magnet mount will not 'stick' to it as it did with the magnet mount you were using for the COMPACtenna on your prior vehicle. NMO Mobile antenna adjustable Lip Mounts designed for trunk lid, truck rear doors, SUV and van rear doors, hood lip, etc. are good for pick-up trucks. Also available are 3rd rear brake light mounts for pickup trucks. And for those willing, there is the 'old standard' through-hole NMO roof mount, or an L-bracket NMO mount with small screws into the body of the vehicle ('Adjustable' bracket mounts with screws are also available.). [Note: Don't forget to use the gasket and Super-Lube that comes with the COMPACtenna.]

Were hoping to get an update from a Real Floridian! How's it going down there? Y'all are in our prayers. We supply Class A RVs to FAA for airport rebuilding after hurricanes. We are bringing 5 units on this furst turn. Not even sure where we're headed yet.

I’ll give the final result…. In moments on video… and find someone to buy my travel trailer please??? 2 years old, 34 foot, and my work of being totally off grid with air conditioning and 1,400 watts of solar with 12 batteries.. emergency responders would KILL for an rv like this..

I just joined the Tarheel fan boy club. Several hams already told me that the Tarheel is a machine and lasts a very long time. Even one of the ham from Ham Radio Outlet told me that ATAS is all plasticky and not put together well. Well, I had same experience and I cringe each time someone raves about the ATAS.

I have an Sbb7. Not great for bumpy country roads. Ive lost the top half twice. I’ll probably get another one, the performance will is good, but I need to loctite everything

I have a very bent SBB7 NMO on my Jeep. It almost lifted the Jeep off the ground when it caught in the garage door! It performs very well on 2m and 70cm. I used it in the mountains during rally race coverage and was hitting the 2m repeater probably 50 miles away. It is now on mag mount instead of fixed mount and yes, the magnet gets knocked off on trails... but the antenna, unlike many others I have used, keeps on going.

I have a 2018 F-150 and I'm terrified of wrecking the paint on that truck. My 10 year old Subaru has two K-400's on it and I had no issues taking a screwdriver and sliding off some paint for a good ground. On a $50k truck, you got me, I'm a wimp lol! And then folks will tell me to drill a hole in the roof. On a $50k truck. Hard pass! Still looking for a good way to mount antennas on my truck without doing damage. Have a diamondback truck cover that I may mount things to, or try and fabricate something that will go in the stake pocket and stick out from the tonneau cover. The search continues...

I have been looking at a screwdriver antenna for a long time, but haven't been mobile a lot, so it hadn't become high enough priority. Your vid re ignited the interest. Thanks for the real life feedback. Oh and there are adapters to go from SO239 or NMO to ⅜-24 for the Tarheel in the future if needed.

I wonder if a single Thule bar could be installed on top of the cab and used as a central mounting point on the bar for a row of antennas? Then a single hole for all the coax? Do you think that could work?
@idostuff-nf9pc4 ай бұрын
In your video (thanks) you mention both Comet and Diamond adjustable mounts. I also have a van.. a very tall Sprinter.. so, I have height challenges. I guess my question at the moment is.. do you feel one is better than the other. Looks like the bolts on the Diamond rusted.. but otherwise looks good. Thoughts? I'm wanting to mount a Little Tarheel on one corner and a dual band V/UHF on the other corner.

Never had any problems with the K400. Have had one that lasted 12 years and my new car has one that has lasted over 7 years. Had initially tried the comet but it broke after 6 months.

Eric you should remote that 7100 head to remote ham box via cell link to you remote box to 7100 body on the house antenna. My buddy remotes into his that way and it works great only change he made was 7300 hand mic to the 7100 head and it’s great he can remote his amp on and cycle his hf auto tuner and remote hf anywhere QRO ☺️ all mode

@23:11 "It's not magnetic. It's not metal." It is metal: it's aluminum. Modern F-150 bodies are made of aluminum. Aluminum is non-ferrous (i.e., no iron), so no magnetic attraction.
@HamRadioConcepts Жыл бұрын
You know what I meant. I am well aware aluminum is metal....
@darylnd Жыл бұрын
@@HamRadioConcepts I thought you would be, so it was a surprising comment. But I've seen enough, similar comments to realize a lot of people out there believe "metal" = "magnetic."
