I started canning last year, I was diagnosed with disc disease and drop foot from operation. Lost my career and was very depressed loved to cook and need a hobby I could make part of my home life and it not be money waisted. I started watching these videos and got so inspired it's an every day part of my life now. It's gave me a sense of pride and your videos make me feel at home like your a friend. Thank you and all of the canners involved in these videos. You are one of my top favorites. As special thank you to you, you gave me my reason to keep learning.

Me too! I’ve had five back surgeries due to spinal cord compression and disc herniations and at L3 & L4, L5& S1 and my drop foot is on my left foot but after 14 years I’m getting some of my ability of my drop foot coming back and the doctor said my brain and nerves are creating new pathways to get to my left foot and has been helping me to lift my dropped foot to help me with it considerably. I originally was told it would never come back if it didn’t come back in one year then it wouldn’t come back but last year it started to come back after having special exercise physiotherapy in a heated pool and I believe that with every day focusing on my stretching has helped me to generate these new neuro pathways to my foot. It’s blown away myself and doctors alike. I have done a similar thing I lose my career but had to find something to put my mind and energy into and in addition to healthful cooking I’ve been learning how to grow food indoors using hydroponics and it’s been an incredible journey learning and watching food grow right before my eyes using water and nutrients and grow lights and a DIY NFT system to grow all kinds of lettuce herbs and peppers and tomatoes. It’s been a wild ride but as humans we have to find something enjoyable to do and things that bring us pleasure and definitely watching lettuce grow and basil and all kinds of herbs it’s been so much fun! 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦

Just canned this last night. I got the same chick peas as Rachel used from Amazon. I soaked overnight rather than boiled. I ended up with ~18 jars worth of chick peas (most of which I canned along with the other hummus ingredients. I am not sure if this matters (I am new to canning), but while the cans rested overnight, the beans soaked up all of the liquid in the jar. I did edit the recipe by adding 1 tsp of ground cumin to each jar. I used one of the jars to make hummus this morning to taste test. I added the contents of the jar along with 1/4 cup of olive oil and salt to taste to my food processor. Fresh made hummus is clearly better than this, but this was significantly easier (if you don’t count the canning). From shelf to hummus, it took just a few minutes, which is pretty cool. Overall, this was a fun project and assuming that I can get through 17 jars of hummus in the next 12 months, I will do it again. Thanks to Rachel for the inspiration!
@capt_lone_startx50482 жыл бұрын
I’d also note that the cost for the hummus jars is ~$2/jar (not including the jar) and the yield is ~1 lb. The store bought cost at the moment is ~$5/lb.
