A look back at some of your favorite 1883 moments.
#ParamountPlus #1883
1883, a Yellowstone origin story, follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. From Academy Award nominee Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of Yellowstone, 1883 is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land - Montana.

I thought it was good, but wasn’t it a little odd that every single calamity that ever impacte any wagon train heading west was inflicted on THIS group, even with such ‘expert’ guides? Sam Elliot’s character had such wisdom and experience but was so unable to convey that information or manage a train? It just seemed really strange. In the end though, the show really pulls you in to the characters, their experiences and their growth, or decay, as human beings. Oh, and that isn’t poison oak in the 2nd scene.

You must have missed history class, as the chronology for the improbable tale is 10 years removed. The whiney voice of Mary Sue (the Comanches would have notched her nose, except they were all pacified and on the Rez in 1883. The largest Comanche raids into Mexico took place from 1840 to the mid-1850s, after which they declined in size and intensity. The Comanche were finally defeated by the United States Army in 1875 and forced onto a reservation.) and her I'm a little bit country she's a little bit country too, pop stars turned insufferably bad actors propels the story beyond the pointless forest into the land of maximum annoyance. Wasted in a conflicted role is Sam Elliott who can't figure out if he is a trail boss(The end of the overland trails era began in 1866 with the formation of the Union Pacific Railroad Company. Following the “wedding of the rails” in 1869, an emigrant could travel from Omaha to the Pacific Ocean in less than two weeks. However, wagon trains could still be seen on the Oregon Trail through the 1880s.), PTSD from the war, or sensitive vulnerable cry baby of the 21st century. All that being said, Lamonica Garret well played as the former buffalo soldier. I'm glad you liked the show. Opinions may vary. Sheridan has done some good stuff this just wasn't up to it.

Same here, but did they deliver. And James Dutton (Tim) was so hardnosed and had me sold within a few mins. I love the real cowboys, from the 1800s/early 1900s. The days of Wild Bill, Wyatt earp, Jessie James, the Kid etc. lived and died by the gun. Well except Wyatt, and even James Dutton (while fictional) did die later on by a bullet I think Elsa mentions in the narrating during 1923.

The scene with Tom Hanks is more powerful than I first believed. If you look closely James Dutton is wearing the Confederate soldier uniform and Tom Hanks wearing the Union uniform. When Elsa says that he was in a union prison for 3 years this was probably the moment just before he entered it. Two opposite sides sitting down looking at the devastation of the battle, powerful!

To be honest, it started to wear on me with its pessimism and cynical "poetry". Could we have a happy medium between rose colored glasses and "paint it black" dark historical "realism". The Donner Party was a happier wagon train than this hyper tragified misery tour. Great acting though, but a lighter touch on the "Heart of Darkness: Oregon Trail" would make it a more enjoyable (and realistic) story.

Easily. She was given one of the best lead parts in a while for a woman, and she executes every moment of it with grace. I saw an interview where she talks about her process of studying for the part. My favorite thing that she said was that when she was hired, the first thing she told Taylor was "you have to get me on a horse right away". The second thing is about how she wrote down notes for herself, in each episode, about another formality that she was going to drop as she travels West. Whether it was how she carried herself in the saddle, or how she spoke.

As a teenager, I had a very bad case of poison ivy infection. Bad enough to keep me from going to school for more than a week. I never wished I was dead, but I sure wished the itching would stop. I learned that, the more you scratched, the more you itched! I also learned to tolerate the itching and not scratch!

I watch this over and over again and keep learning more things about our last history that’s so valuable and even though it was brutal at times, epic tale, beautiful script, and very talented people, everyone of them even the background personnel who displayed such beauty and hardships, Thank you for showing this movie❤️❤️🙏🙏💚🇺🇸

What an amazing cast. A real throwback to how gritty they were back then, couldn't have asked for a better cast. MY only disappointment was the ending, It was SAD as all heck. And out of all those people the only really happy ending was the captain with his immigrant GF and children, and they were one of the only ones to actually make the whole trip. I guess Elliot character did make it to where he wanted but how that played out was sad also lol I wish the sequel series would make more references to that original family (james dutton) since they were the founders of the home and land.

Great stuff! Very good by any standard I have known and I am sort of an old rooster. I'm halfway through the season and the big names are good but don't discount Isabel May,that young lady has her share of talent too. Heck,so far everyone fits/makes their part, this series is a must watch for me!
