Well done,I'd vote this as a successful trip. That's fine performance for a factory made rifle. Conditions vary, wind, heat, light, all make a difference. Take as many tries as you need! Enjoyed the video. Good shooting.

really enjoying this series, Thanks for the video Tom!. as for the limit of attempts I like the sound of 5 tries for 5 round groups.

I'll bet you feel entirely different about that rifle than when you began. I love a rifle that shoots well, it's so rewarding, since I'm so familiar with the ones that won't, no matter what I do.

Have used the Redfield Sight-in targets for years. Buy them 100 at a time for around $20. With the scopes I have, I align the crosshairs on the heavy lines equally in all 4 directions. That way I am aiming at the exact same spot as close as possible with my optic. Aiming a little off will always expand your group. Where I hunt a 1x6 illuminated scope works for me. Also use a number of 2x10 illuminated scopes as my eyes age.

I believe you have done a great job getting to this point. You could use this load shooting more tests to see if it continues the same performance. Changing primers or brass to other brands can often improve or reduce accuracy. A clean barrel will change results too. The small changes matter if you want to continue tuning the load. Accurate records are valuable too. When hunting ranges increase, the first shot is important to note where it prints. That is the important sight setting to rely on. Shooting practice from hunting positions off a shooting bench, defines sight setting and what the rifle and hunter limits truly are. 👍

3-5 attempts is what I give myself. One discarded for human error and 1 for conditions beyond your control. Thanks for the video. I'm still trying to scope my Peruvian Modelo 1935 without making any permanent modifications. I get 3-5 moa with the iron sights, but I won't rest until I see what it can do.

Whoa!!!! Look at that shooting structure. Is that the same range you've been shooting at? Ok, I finished watching the vid. Yes it is. Lol Tom, instead of weighing primers, spend that time with the grandkids. Just choose a match grade primer. I would focus on the front, or steering, end of the cartridge. Consistent neck wall thickness, concentricity, seating depth, crimp. All of that is, imo, more important, even, than powder/bullet combo. Can you rotate the front rest slightly on the upstairs bench to straddle the corner of the cutout? That thing looks big enough to have a little party amongst fellow club members after the sun goes down. Thanks, Tom!

Tom you did well in my opinion. Very good shooting l hope you get exactly what you are looking for in a hunting load . I glad to hear that someone is willing to say no that is to far away for me to try with what I have here. But if I had a different setup I think that I would be able to make that shot. Have a good good week and God bless you as well.

Tom, I think it would be fair for 3-5 attempts and then average the groups. There are so many variables that can come into play to justify just 1 or 2 groups. Keenly interested in the hunting bullet work up, as it stands I believe this would make a fine SC bean field rifle.

I've enjoyed this series. Though the only time I shoot off the bench is to dial in a new scope. For me personally, bench shooting denigrates the type of shooting I do. Which is hunting and culling the invasive species we have here in SSW Texas which I do most days of the week. I'm old and very shaky so I mostly shoot off a solid tripod with ball head and granted some of the fundamentals are common from bench shooting to my sort of shooting but attempting long range precision shooting kinda works against me so I don't do it. Plus I'd suck at it anyway. 🤣 Regardless I always learn from your videos and am quite entertained. Thank you

Good day to you Tom. Glad to see that your rifle is shooting so well now. Well done my friend. I say you shoot for 1/2 M.O.A. at 500 yds, 5 shot groups, do this in 3 tries or less. BTW, how many power is your scope dialed up to for this test? Good luck & God bless 😎👍.

Is winchester bringing back production of the high walls? I can't find any new production rifles from winchester other than the low walls. I checked their website and was hoping they hadn't updated it but I figured I'd be safe and see if anybody had further information or if this was one of the rifles they made a handful of years ago.

Radian measure is unit-less. It uses whatever units the distance to the target is reckoned. The only problem English units is converting fractions of a yard to inches. Converting fractions to a meter to cm is easier.

I hope you have 50 rounds loaded up and ready because I'm giving you 10 chances with 5 shot groups if you want. That just my take on it. I think the the group you got was pretty darn good.

If the weather conditions are good and no mirage I would say your first attempt with 3 sighters unless your goal was half moa average. You said half moa so every group should be less than or equal to half moa.
@joemass1023
@joemass1023 Жыл бұрын
I bet your groups would shrink in half and get rid of all the stringing if you replaced that junky front rest with a good bipod (harris or atlas) and a modern heavy rear bag from Armageddon Gear or Wiebad.
@denisleblanc4506
@denisleblanc4506 Жыл бұрын
Shoot as many groups as you want preferably three or more five shot groups. Then use the average. If the average is half MOA it's a half MOA gun. At least half your groups will be in that half MOA and half would be outside of it. That's the way I think. I know some will say your worst group should be no larger than half MOA but I think that's not fair. There are far too many variables when shooting that far and you probably need a rifle that shoots quarter MOA or less to do that. After all, you already shot a much smaller 4 shot group. I saw that Hornady ballisticians say you need a lot of shots to describe the accuracy of a rifle, but does it really or does that describe a whole lot of factors of which the rifle is only one factor.
