Guard pulling is a strategy the only problem it is when it is the only strategy.i pulled guard only when I want to work on my guard retention.

@@luizdefrancaafonsoferreira9277if you are wearing jeans that isn’t really a problem. Theoretically if combined with boots and upkicks it could be a somewhat formidable tactic for those that are inferior in standing and running ability. Idk, I feel like clothing changes the conversation somewhat as far as tactic viability

BJJ needs to just own the guard pull f what people think. Use it as a semi-takedown and do it in ways that force the opponent into a grappling exchange. If the opponent can choose no to engage then its a bad pull. If the opponent is forced to deal with the position then good job, its a takedown.

Would be interesting if they added ippons to BJJ. 2 points for any takedown seems wrong. Same with 2 points for knee on belly.

@ulysses-pact 14 сағат бұрын
Bjj should have bonus points for high amplitude throws. Maybe go the wrestling route and award 5 points. Ban passive guard pulling and you will almost fix everything wrong with bjj ruleset

2 points for knee on belly adds incentive to move out of side control. For me the issue with Jiu-Jitsu rules is the dichotomy between action based points and position based points. There are 3 position-based points: - Mount (4 points) - Back (4 points) - Knee on belly (2 points) 3 action based: - Takedown (2) - Sweep (2) - Passing the guard (3) I think that making everything position based could help things: 2 points for gaining top position, 2 points for side control. That way people will only pull into a sweep (tomoe nage, sumi gaeshi, pull to an x guard sweep), and would be penalized in case of failure.

Judo should not score throws at all, if the the one throwing does not land in dominant position - and if you give your back while trhowing, then you should get a penalty.

BJJ needs to add points to Ippon. Takedowns of any kind are good, but I think throwing should be a greater focus, even when going for a submission. It's easier to submit someone who has had the wind knocked out of them from an ippon seoi nage, or some other throw, than say, a foot sweep or single leg. Ippons should get 4 points I think. Keep the Judo in BJJ.

Does it say that he was butt scooting or approaching on knees? If approaching on knees then this is a common practice in ju jitsu and especially in aikido - which does a huge amount of kneeling work particularly in Yoshinkan style. It comes, as far as I’m aware, from sword pulling in Japanese duelling. Don’t feel it’s really fair to compare to sitting down
@Hachizukatenzo
@Hachizukatenzo 3 сағат бұрын
In Aikido it comes from situations where you were inside a house, both starting from a kneeling position. Out of regulated grappling match it doesn't make much sense to start from a kneeling position, except if you enjoy having your face kicked.

(8:31) Chadi, Jiu-Jitsu throws doesn't look " sloppy " as you said ... all the throws from Jiu-jitsu are similar or very close to the throws from Judo ... most of the time with different stand and different power/intensity. The throws are very close (or identical). Cheers ...
