I have my great great great grandfathers old 1889 in 38-40. Lots of wear on it but still shoots. I will never get rid of that old rifle.

Thanks to having subscribed to your cannel and watching this video shortly after doing so I saved myself a LOT of cursing, general irritation, ammo cost, and not a small amount (at least on my budget) of money. I very recently ran across one these riles, in .38-40 with an octagonal barrel believe it or not, and in much the same overall condition as the one you featured in this video. I came within a hair of buying the rifle but held off because I was 99.999% certain I had seen a video about that particular model Marlin....This video as it turned out. Since I don't buy anything I can't hunt with, I'm not much of a fan of gun vault queens, I decided to keep my money in my pocket and spend a little time at home checking on You Tube for the video I had seen.....And here it is. Thanks again for an excellent video!

The Marlin 1889 and the Winchester 1873 were chambered for RIFLE cartridges. The .44WCF, .38WCF, and the .32WCF, all RIFLE cartridges, were eventually chambered in the Colt 1873 SAA, In this case, it was a revolver chambered for a RIFLE cartridge. There seems to be a lot of ignorance on this topic.

You are entitled to your opinion, and there is some truth in your statement. Convention is to refer to the calibers you mention as pistol cartridges and reserve the rifle designation for .45-70, .30-06, etc.

I recently acquired an interest in lever actions at 61 yrs. old. Thank's for this great vid. At 6:20 you talked about Flat bolt verses round and went too fast, all I see is a round front end on the bolt. I appreciate your time and effort.

Where can I find amo for the 1889 marlin 45-70

Your Marlin is a lot like mine. Mine has the same issues. Only mine has the original octagon barrel. I would like to find a gunsmith that could re-chamber it to the 44-40 round. If that can not be done I'd like to have it re-barreled.

I sold this not long after this video was shot. In order to keep content fresh I have to sell some of them. As much as I might like to I can't keep them all. The go to authority on old Marlins in Doug Turnbull in New York. Thanks for watching Dave.

How do I determine the model number of an old Marlin lever action (in 25-20) when there is no 'model' number stamped on it, just patented dates? (1887, 1889 and 1893)
@JMCraw-ru8xk4 жыл бұрын
Top eject is md 1888, lever latch and side eject is md 1889, no lever latch and side ejection is md 1893

Your caliber description was very incomplete... you led the viewer believe it was a 38 caliber failing to mention it is a 40 caliber in a 45 colt necked down case.. the 38--40 is listed inorrect... 40 caliber with. 38 guns of black powder...original ... most " 38-40 owners never mention this peculiar fact with clairity....👎

Even the 44-40 is a 45Colt case necked down to a 44 caliber bullet....!!🤔
