Cool project. I know a guy who made one into a 218 Bee .

I would imagine that the hammer also absorbs some of the pressure. Interesting project. That long barrel is going to need a good modern scope.

It wouldn't be a sniper rifle without one, would it?

I wouldn't worry at all about any pressure/force difference in the Stevens action in chambering to 22 Magnum. The action will be fine. The problem I see is potential accuracy/pressure as the 22LR bullet diameter is .223-.225 while the 22 Magnum is .224 and the .224 diameter is pretty closely held. The land dimension for the 22LR is .212 while the land diminsion for the 22 Mag is .219. Here is where the problem increases. If you slug the bore of the Winchester doner barrel and find it is on the large land size (which is entirely possible) and it is .217-.218 it may do OK. If you find its on the tight side say .212 you may greatly increase pressure and greatly degrade accuracy.

Your calculation is wrong. The thrust face diameter is the id of the case at the head, not the od of the rim. Any pressure in the priming pocket of the rim is self cancelling, as the thrust will be both backward and forward, so a zero vector force. So, in essence, you mag and lr breech load is effectively equal, as the id differences are less than the mean max of lr, mean max of mag variation from spec max (and none are max loaded anyway, because ammo is expected to stay within spec from arctic winter cold to south florida summer hot)
@RealDeanWinchester8 ай бұрын
What you are saying about the forces cancelling would be true if both forces were acting on a single particle, which is how the models are presented in school. In this case the force, (pressure), is acting on two different surfaces. You are correct about the ID vs OD but it would be the ID of the rim, not the ID of the case. I chose to use the OD to be more conservative.

My boy is some kinda engineer nerd. Says you gotta be careful about them numbers. Seems our friends from the east have become real good at using the wrong ones on hardwares.
