Here's which language every character can understand from what's been shown till now: Eyk (and most of the Officers and Crew) - German, English Maura - English Daniel (mysterious stranger, name revealed in ep 2) - English Ángel - Spanish, Portuguese, English Ramiro (Fake Priest) - Spanish, Portuguese Jèrôme - French Lucien - French, English Clemence - French, English Olek - Polish, German, English Ling Yi (18 yr old Chinese) - Cantonese, Japanese (learning), English (maybe) Yuk Je (Ling Yi's mom) - Cantonese, Japanese, English Virginia (Mrs. Wilson) - English, French, Cantonese, Japanese (probably) Krester - Danish (forgive me if that's not the language name), German Tove - Danish, German Iben (their mom) - Danish Anker (their dad) - Danish The Boy - English Jèrôme and Olek did have a scene together in ep1. Olek shared his bread with him. Jèrôme has likely escaped from prison (Lucien declared him a deserter), and is now a stowaway passenger on Kerberos.

Woah! Thank you for the language breakdown. It’s very impressive seeing how they can surpass a language barrier and still are able to communicate their desires. PS When we were talking about the 2 characters sharing a scene together we were referring to Jèrôme and Lucien. We couldn’t remember them seeing each other on the Kerberos and for good reason! That confrontation came later during that same episode 😃

@@OfficialMediaKnights Oh okay, when you mentioned not seeing them together Olek and Jèrôme were on screen, so thought you were talking about them. Most of the time characters don't understand each other, and just get by with a couple of words that were understood, and body language and gestures play a part too. Like just to experience it, I have rewatched the show without subtitles on in Original audio (was my 3rd rewatch so I knew where what dialogue was said), and cast's great acting and the screenplay, make it a wonderful experience.

Can I ask you about something? You said one work in german so well that it made me think you studied german or lived in Germany for some time? It's not typical language that people from US/UK are learning. English isn't my first language either and I had german at school for 11 years that's why it made me think about it. ;)

Olek actually speaks some German. He talks with the ship crew in german, just with a polish accent. As someone who speaks german i easly picked that up but i guess if you're not so familiar with the language, you probably won't as you might think he's just always speaking polish.

Which makes total sense considering that it was year1899 so at that time Poland was occupied by Germany, Austria and Russia so it was required that all polish people spoke either german or russian (depenting who took their lands). So this is a little detail that makes the show more credible and true to the history for me. I love how much attention they are bringing into details.

I don't think it transported them into the past necessarily, just returned them to their original position and heading before they started heading for the Prometheus. As for the rust and decay of the Prometheus, seawater can quickly corrode iron/steel ships of that era, particularly an idle one that's been sitting there for 4 months. Perhaps not enough to fully explain that level of decay, but you still might be surprised by just how much damage it could do in that time period. Also, since you two seem like the type to enjoy speculating, here is something to chew on: you have a particular theory about something that is close but not quite.

This is the episode where I really started to hate Krester’s mother. She just got uglier and uglier as it went on and yes, I totally get that reference to the Stephen King characters who do horrible things in the name of religion! That last fight scene was so reminiscent of the one between the churches in Needful Things! I’m a religious person myself and it upsets me to see others twist that to behave in horrible ways. By the end of episode 3 I was 100% sure that Daniel is the boy all grown up, and that he’d somehow time traveled back to interact with his younger self. I won’t say whether or not that theory was correct because I don’t know how far along you guys are in your watching, but I love that your mind went to the same place! Your facial expressions in the second half of this episode were so fun! I love the constant theme of WHAT IS GOING ON???? I freaking love these writers because I feel like that all the time watching their shows and it’s awesome. I think episode 5 is when things really start to get crazy so I can’t wait to watch your next reaction! See you there!

Some of the Latin based languages are really similar too. I knew a Spanish speaking person who spoke with a French woman in their respective languages and they could understand each other well enough to get the general idea of what they were saying.

Language is definitely sus in 1899. Apparently the Danish, French, and Spanish is too modern for 1899. And the German has and absence of old fashioned words, unlike in Dark. And I agree they do understand each other sometimes a little too well.
