Hello sir, while watching your video on the blown head gasket, showing the problem. I have a problem while a 17.5hp Briggs & Stratton with NO COMPRESSION. IS that because the the valves need working?
@WeekendHobbyMechanic20 күн бұрын
Do you have a compression tester?
@ronniewortham326020 күн бұрын
@@WeekendHobbyMechanic No I don't.

My jacklegged guessing tells me if the plug is in and I don't get compression, the valves needed work. I'm trying to get a second opinion.

Take the valve cover off and look at the valves. Are they working correctly… one might be stuck.

I had oil getting sucked into the vacuum tube of the fuel pump, and leaking out of the pump's vent. I followed the same head gasket repair procedure carefully, but totally messed up the valve set on the first try. I had the wrong engine stroke set, set the valves correctly, sealed the cover then ran the engine. It started right up but didn't sound good and I stopped it... checked and caused the exhaust valve cap to fall off. Rods were not bent. Then I very carefully set the right stoke including the 1/4" turn and set the valves to spec again. The engine starts up and runs, sounds normal, but I have a very very clear smoke burning off the muffler. It's not blue or white smoke. Not sure if I damaged it. Should I just use it until the oil burns off, or is the end near for this engine?

Run it. It’s just old oil in the muffler burning off.
@mattb96647 ай бұрын
Thanks! I'll just use it as normal for the next mow and see how it goes.

Opps! I've taken the head off already😮. What other way is it to tell with the head off?

Did the head gasket looked blown? Rotate the motor by hand and see if the piston moves.

Head gasket didn't look blown and the piston moves well.

Good. I’d replaced head gasket. You should be good to go.

Ok then, I'll get on next week.

Late to the Game here, I just replaced my head gasket on my e110 due to burning oil at 100 hours. The spec I looked up said torque to 140 inch lbs which I did and my motor still burns oil. Now I’m wondering if I way undertightend my head bolts I have the E110 with the 19 hp b&s engine

100hrs and still smoking…. Wow, try torquing them to 220in-lbs.

Did retorqueing to 220 fix it?

140 Is like average impact drill rating. Mine usually leaks if I just use that. I always take a ratchet and give it another half turn afterwards.

Great video ! Im restoring a 125 with 800 hrs on it. Hydrostatic 46 works fine but would you still change the trans oil if Im goin to sell it ? Thanks Dave

If it works good I’d leave it alone.

I used “rim and wheel cleaner”. Works well.
