Podcasts are kind of a good niche with these people who most of us know in the strength world. Great podcast. I found bromleys channel when he was at like 400 subs. I knew he was gonna rapidly grow. Always good information and good takes. Keep it up Pete you found your lane with these. Pretty much endless content too cause there’s always new lifters and other people in the spot light.

I used to play basketball all the time. When I was in high school there were a few guys who were better than me but in a game of 5s I could hold my own I’m the context of a team. I’ll never forget playing at a park one night and there was dude who played junior college ball. It was unreal how much better he was than anyone I’d ever been in the court with. He could do whatever he wanted against anyone on the court. So if I extrapolate his talent and physical abilities to the pro level, of what it would be like to actually face the 12th man on an NBA roster… wow. Point is this exists in strength sports, too. There are people who just have these hard to comprehend abilities. They are just rare. Just like the NBA player.
@stephenburial

When I first got into lifting seriously around 2 years ago I would see all the natty or not channels and definitely would doubt a lot of drug free claims. But now that I’ve gotten my deadlift to 600 on a stiff bar (conventional) I’ve shattered my own conceptions around what’s possible. I’m 35 and was never a good athlete and I spent most of my years sedentary. So if I’m able to get my lifts this high I can only imagine what it’s like for someone with a considerable amount of talent physical abilities that align with the sport.

Pete you should get Steve Bake on the podcast! He's a farmer from Monroe Ohio. His best lifts are a 1000lb squat and 885 deadlift in the gym and a 645 bench in a meet. He's a very taciturn guy so I think to be on a podcast w someone like you with how great you are at getting people to talk would be great

Pete can you talk about the difference in barbells. Sometimes I can slam a good deadlift on a deadlift bar vs. a regular 45 bar. And even with the bench if I use an Ohio power bar vs. a random 45 pound who knows bar my bench is completely different as far as moving weight and feeling good
@PeteRubish
@PeteRubish Жыл бұрын
I’d say the Ohio power bar is the gold standard for bars. But the problem is that a lot of these commercial gym bars are bent and the knurling is all but gone from use, so that really affects things!
@MonsterM0E420
@MonsterM0E420 Жыл бұрын

@@PeteRubish you’re the man!! That’s what I was thinking bro. I feel like the Ohio bar has a nasty grip and it would be powerlifting ready and the commercial bars don’t flex and are just not right
@MonsterM0E420
@MonsterM0E420 Жыл бұрын
@@PeteRubish and the commercial bars with the Allen head ends don’t flex or they feel way thicker to grip or the weight isn’t right. I can’t quite put my finger on it but I can move way more weight on an Ohio power bar vs. an Allen head end bar or a random who knows bar that’s not even labeled at the ends and has one ring on each side that just doesn’t seem right and the Allen head shit bar is always with the skinny pad bench with no padding and the Ohio power bar is always with a rogue bench with a Thompson fat pad where I can actually plant my whole back on. It’s like my shoulders hang off the skinny benches and I can’t plant my shoulder blades down and I get rear delt pain on the skinny bench. I hope I’m making sense and thank you very much

American Olympic weightlifting is mostly clean because no one cares about it. There’s no money in it. We consistently lose on the international level. And USADA is constantly testing the athletes. So, there’s minimal incentive for anyone to use anything because there’s no money to be made, and there is significant risk because USADA is always testing.

Yep, and a lot of the competitors are people who found sport at a later age and are sort of...nerds. And I mean this in a polite way. I used to be into cycling, and that’s similar in that way. A lot of the people who do it were not athletes when they were young and have a very naive view of PEDs in sports in general
