My favorite gameboy game isn't strictly an arcade classics port, but you're still chasing highscores. It's a puzzle/action game called Battle Bull. There are 48 stages and you have to clear a number of enemies per stage to move on. Each stage has a time limit. If you run out of time an enemy comes out and starts laying blocks all across the map and regular enemies move faster. The more time you have left, the more points you get. The primary attack method is by pushing blocks into enemies. Later you can trade your jump ability for a canon. Between each level there is a shop where you can spend money on upgrades. I like it because it is accessible for both casual gamers and the hardcore. There is a password save system that even saves your purchased upgrades. However it doesn't save your score. If you lose all your lives and continue, your score resets to zero too. So if you want to simply beat the game, you can do that and continue or use password saves as much as you want. If you want to chase high scores by completing each stage as fast as possible without losing lives, you can do that too. It's not a super fast paced game but it gets pretty intense because you have to strategize on the fly and anticipate enemy movements. I like Elevator Action too but I think you can camp by the exit and take out endless enemies for infinite points, which defeats the whole purpose of a score system.

There are a number of these titles that were favorite go to games for me. The old Game Boy, (beat up but still in my posession) was a super solid hand held. Challenge, simplicity, and variety all in one place.

I waited patiently for Donkey Kong to be released for the GameBoy, even bought the Super GameBoy module for SNES... Hoping for a perfect arcade port, I was a little disappointed as I went through the first 4 screens... but after Donkey Kong got up and re-captured Pauline, and I saw screen five.. I was blown away.. Still one of my favorites of all time!

I like play the atarri 7800 version of centipede on the Evercade as it plays just like the arcade and is very fast.

Donkey Kong on Game Boy is in my top 3 potable games! A classic! I also played Qix on Game Boy religiously when I was young.

Gotta mention the Flintstones BurgerTime game (although it is for the GB Color). It looks great and plays similar, just has a different lay out. Gorgeous colors and graphics. I never hear anyone really talk about it.

I have some of these games and I enjoy them on my GBA and I use the Retron %5 to play them on my TV. :)
