Hi and thx, a few days ago I had no clue how to make custom scenery now I have 4 custom air fields.also created a custom helipad in my home town,did it very similar to this also created a ga parking spot then put the helipad over the top so I can start cold and dark.

Great video.. couple of tricks... If you use your middle mouse button and click on the center white dot of whatever is selected, your Gizmo will automatically come up..also, right click on the center white dot for properties..some tricks I learned while designing the airport for MS2020..just save a lot of time ..

@@patriotsix5880 I think it will make you life easier while designing the airports...I know that the first few airports I did, there were way too many clicking with the mouse and the larger the projects, well, you get the idea! Also, W = move , E = rotate, R = Scale tool...just be careful if you have also the camera settings setup to W , E, R it sometimes moves the camera around, while you change the gizmo. Looking forward to the next video....

@@davelourie9600 Thanks for the tips and advice. I dom't have plans or the ambition and time to build an entire airport, but who knows? It might happen someday. LOL Every moment I spend making videos ETC is lost time in the Sim but that is OK. I make sure I get a flight in every day even if I start the flight at 2 AM local time. The luxury of being retired. When you speak of the hotkeys are you talking about using the hotkeys for polygon building? I am not on your wavelength yet. LOL What I do for movement and mouse clicks have become such muscle memory I do it without thinking. I am always open to better ways though. I might be an old horse but this old horse can learn new tricks.

Hiya, great vid one of the most helpful out there! I've been wanting to make a helipad for my garden so followed the video but it refuses to show up in sim. I'm wanting to make it a starting point for a cold start, but can't even get the helipad to show up let alone runway, any ideas? Tommorow I'm going to delete it and retry from scratch, but if not i honestly don't know what to do. The plan is my shed on the sim is flat (lol) and I've added a scenery shed in its place, and added the helipad to the top, the runway can't be the same height as the helipad as it then creates a mountain below the shed, so it has to sit on ground level. Will that effect the starting point? And would it be worth updating sdk? Thanks.

You can place a landable helipad on top of buildings, ETC. I made a video on that and I will link it at the bottom. However, at this time, unfortunately, you cannot make a starting point helipad above ground level. There is also a good mod on flightsim.to with good helipads. I have used this mode for both landable and starting point helipads. The mod has a twist though. You have to place the items in your modelLib folder but that is easy to do. First off thank you very much for teaching me how to do this. I've added several heliports in my local state. I noticed the other day that I'm getting a error message in the console window when I open Microsoft flight simulator that tells me that there are duplication issues in the helipads. Research indicated that because I am copying the original folder containing the ghz helipads, saving it, renaming it and starting a new project that the GUID numbers are the same and that's causing the problem. How do I fix that or should I even care about that? I am planning many more helipads.

Let me ask a few questions. Are the mods working? Are you referring to the errors you see on the console after the package build? If so, ignore the errors as long as the scenery package is working. Errors are in every package I build and it is something in the SDK beyond our control. I will always see errors in every job I do. Sometimes it is only a few hundred errors but more often it is 3 or 4 thousand errors. It is not a problem as long as the packages work. I should start mentioning the errors in the videos but I am so accustomed to the errors I never think to address them for new builders. If you have just one package in your community folder with the GBZ helipads you do not have to add the objects in any of the subsequent builds. To be clear, I am referring to replacing the standard modelLib with the GBZ modelLib. You only have to insert the GBZ modelLib in one package and you are good to go with any other projects. The models will be in your scenery library as long as one package in your community folder has the model's objects. However, that means if you ever remove that one package, none of the subsequent packages will render the models. All it takes is one package with the models but the one must stay in your community folder all of the time. make sense?

Hi there! You have helped to come back to redesigning my local airports. I Have done a few of them but there is a Bug on one of them. One section between taxiway points when I start my flight from that airport looks normal like when I originally did. But when I fly out to another destination and come back, That section look wider that the main runway. I re-did the taxiways and it still happens after I return back. Any Suggestions? Thanks, Robert

It is difficult for me to answer not knowing what you have tried. So, here are a few questions. Are you placing the helipad on the ground or on a building? Is this a location where a helipad is there in real life or just a random location? Is the ground level? it could be a terraforming issue. There are a few questions that will help me help you. If you can't figure it out and if you have Discord, we may get on Discord so I can see what you are trying to do.

What do you do if MSFS has built a building where you helipad goes. I put the helipad in the correct location, There was and is a building there. Can I remove the building?

It's easy. The AI thinks the heliport is a building. Here is what you do. Build a polygon around the building. Bring up properties from the scenery editor and then select MS buildings. Then exclude all. Boom! The building is gone. It is a similar process for removing vegetation if you have tried to remove vegetation yet. I demonstrate this process in several videos. Wow, compared to WED editor in xplane, this is stupidly complex. I could build an entire incredibly detailed airport in the time it took you to place a cheesy helipad. Wow!

I have heard that but I have no experience in XPlane. That said, I can build things incredibly fast when I am not talking through the steps. But, I have built over 400 packages so it gets quicker once it becomes second nature to you.
