I was not promoting the FU-F1 shirts for sale Jacob as I am trying to get people involved to get the F-1 race removed here. I see my comments were removed already! When the F-1 revs up to cause the traffic jams etc. we need to help all the businesses that will be losing business and try to get the contract ripped in half and say adios to F-1. Hope you read and then go ahead and delete.

Back in 2019 I left Las Vegas for Texas, and back in 2018 I left California for Las Vegas (partly from watching Jacob Orth’s videos). I regret neither move, even though I grew up in California. And now that I am coming close to my 5th year anniversary here in Dallas, Texas, I am researching ways to move back to Las Vegas. I am hoping to acquire skills or a job transfer to Las Vegas. I would certainly not just pack up my truck, drive all my possessions to Las Vegas, cross my fingers, and hope for the best. If I do move back to Vegas, I need to either have a job already lined up, marketable skills for the Las Vegas job scene, or a solid plan. Just to be clear, I do NOT hate Texas, in a lot of ways I kinda like it, especially the cost of living and the job scene. The main reason why I left Las Vegas was the horrible economy, and as I understand it, the Vegas economy has gotten worse. I do miss Las Vegas very much and hopefully I would like to move back sometime in the next 5 years. Texas is fine and the people here are nice, perhaps even nicer than Vegas or California. There is a lot of stuff to do here in DFW, but its nothing like Las Vegas. They have a saying in Las Vegas & Nevada that Nevada is East California, which is very true. I am like Jacob in that I grew up on the Central Coast of California, and Jacob grew up in Norcal. There is a big culture difference between Vegas/California & Texas. The #1 reason why I want to move back to Vegas/California is the culture, and perhaps nostalgia. I understand Vegas/California, whereas I dont always understand stuff here in DFW. I would also like to move closer to my family in California as well. So if anyone is looking to move here to Texas, my advice is research it, and I will say that there are a lot of worse places to live in here in the USA. But if you are looking to leave Vegas for better job opportunities you might want to consider making a 1-2 year plan to build a career in Vegas. Although you might make more money outside of Vegas, you might not be happier elsewhere, but that is just my nickel-store advice.

@JacobslifeinVegas

Thank you Ken for the tip! That's not something I would do an entire video on because it's very niche. Generally speaking though, the strip hotels have pretty good gyms with enough free weights to get in a solid workout. Even some of the cheaper options around town have a pretty good gym (Treasures Island, Luxor, Plaza, Sahara, HIlton Grand Vacation North Strip). The luxury properties are also a pretty safe bet for a larger and nicer gym

This is for the Vets. Take your DD 214 to the county recorder (the pyramid building downtown) to get a discount on either your auto registration or home property taxes. The discount is about $150.00 per year. This discount never expires.

@mariedew552 it's due to global warming, primarily carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. There's currently 36 billion tons of CO2 being emitted into the air worldwide each year. This also causes the major bodies of water to warm up, which causes more steam, which fuels the hurricanes. It's the reason there are more Category 5 hurricanes lately. Humans are heating up the planet.

We (NYC) are the original "city that never sleeps" to be called that. When I was younger I always thought that was lame given that bars must close at 4am. But in truth I think besides the fact that bars don't have a legal closing and of course the casinos never close, we are actually more of a round the clock city than you. From the consumer perspective even, better hours for a lot of stuff. Then again for retail of every type most hours are worse since 2020 everyplace and it's probably not ever coming back.

My experience with car insurance differs. I moved from Los Angeles area and was shocked that my insurance doubled. Home repairs, make sure you check out contractors and get referrals. so many unlicensed contractors doing below standard work. Also beware of a trade person or worker who will tell you "I got a guy" who will do a job for you. The scram is many workers want to act as a general contractor and refer you to his "Guy" with hopes to handle the job for you using the other guy. The deal is the first guy subcontracts to the other guy for a markup on the cost of the job. Always ask who will be doing the work, you or someone else.

The part about the weather makes me think of a buddy of mine. He’d been to Vegas before, but almost always in the late spring or early fall and a couple times in the summer. One time, he had to go out there in the winter, like mid-January if I recall correctly. He didn’t take any warmer clothes because he didn’t know it got cold out there. It’s still typically warmer out there at that time of year than it is here in Indiana, but it’s still not warm. He got home and when I asked him about his trip, he told me he froze his butt off lol

@@salvadorromero9712 A lot of people think the way that you do because of the negative things of L.A. that are expressed in the media, and, because you are not familiar with the layout and neighborhoods of L.A. South Central L.A. is not all of L.A. There are neighborhoods in L.A. that have names that sound like cities. Some of the most expensive neighborhoods in the nation are in L.A. Also, there are so many adjacent cities to L.A. There is not a problem on every corner, every turn, every block, and in front of every house. L.A. does not have the worst crime per capita (100K people). It has a high number of crime because it is the second most populated city. L A. County is the most populated county in the US. We couldnt find our trash can until the next morning where it magically re-appeared. It is still a mystery to me where that trash can went and how it got back to our home. The first installment of our annual property taxes is due on August 16, 2024, so this is a very timely question. 😊 The Clark County Assessor's Office has my house valued at $575,357 for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The property tax on this value is $6,601.48. That's about $11.48 per thousand. How they determine what your home is worth is a mystery, though. LOL However, Nevada passed a state law that went into effect many years ago during one of Las Vegas' boom periods that caps the property tax adjustment for any one year to 3%. So, even if the value of your home increases by 20%, your taxes can only increase by 3% (for a primary residence, not a commercial or rental property. The commercial property cap is 8%). When we went through one of our economic crashes, property values plummeted. So, the property taxes I pay will continue to increase by 3% every year until it reaches the taxes assessed based on the current value of my home. My tax bill this year is only $3,602.27 because that is 3% over what I paid last year. If you were to buy my home new, you'd pay the full $6,601.48, but long-time homeowners benefit from the tax cap. I hope that makes sense. 🙂

So the Monorail has a huge discount, i think its like $1-2 per way. For tourists its a lot more. The Monorail will ask to see your drivers license and as long as it is a Nevada license you get the discount, even if you are from Reno. Valentines Day will get you free admission to the Mob Museum and also a free dinner at the Palms Casino AYCE through a coupon in the mail. And even a lot of small locally owned restaurants will give you 10% off, but you have to ask for it, they wont just give it to you. A lot of places wont even ask to see your drivers license, they will just give you the discount. But I dont recall getting a discount from a big corporation, except for the casinos. If you sign up for their free programs and identify you as a local you can usually get discounts.

Yes, wind! I had no idea about the Vegas Valley wind! When I travel, one of the joys is getting out of the Vegas wind. I've had the wind close my car door on my legs. And ya' know when you walk down the street and see a little whirlwind of leaves or trash on the sidewalk?... that's happened over my car's PASSENGER SEAT whirling the trash from my floorboard garbage can. Be careful opening your car door in this crazy wind!

I am a new high school science teacher in Dallas Fort Worth and I was considering transferring my teaching certification to Las Vegas because I am from California and I used to live in Vegas. I believe California, Texas, and Nevada all have reciprocity agreements between each other which means you would be able to avoid the teaching certification requirements when you move to Vegas. I could be wrong, but from the cursory research I have done on teaching in Vegas it doesnt look like teaching is a great idea in Vegas. They pay a lot less and their class sizes are large. Also, I dont know if you are aware, there are some really really violent and bad neighborhoods in Vegas where you wouldnt want to teach. Most people who have never lived in Vegas dont know that Vegas is one of the most violent cities in America even though it doesnt get in the news a lot and the media never talks about Vegas and crime. Now there are some great neighborhoods in Clark County/Las Vegas where it is safe like Green Valley Ranch or Summerlin which would probably be great for teaching, but I am guessing its probably gonna be competitive to get one of those jobs. Like you, I also used to live in Los Angeles (Hollywood just off Gower) and I am also looking for a way to move back to Las Vegas, but if I do move back to Las Vegas it will not be as a teacher, but probably some other career. Just my two cents.

They pay terrible here though and you can tell to many teachers it's just a job the passion is gone. My son is autistic with an IEP and I truly miss his CA teacher more than anything she was Soo passionate about her job and kids. His teacher here was not a bad person but she seemed very overworked and overwhelmed with class of 18 kids should be 12 max with no aids too should have 3 according to district! And the school website has openings for special education teachers starting at 55k it says which imo is Soo low for the work they do!

I moved here from LA four years ago- it's like night and day. No state income tax vs 10%, and you get some much more house/apartment for less money. Add in the other costs of CA and it's a no brainer to me. Honestly, if you're not making at least $300k plus in CA, it's not worth living there.

Water is "hard" because of dissolved minerals in the water, not harmful to health but means more trouble cleaning. People commonly have water softeners to reduce the problem. This is common in many areas of the country, especially if water is from wells (as opposed to reservoirs).
