Undoubtedly one of the best movies I've had the pleasure of watching. Bertolucci turns out to show us half a century of a country's history through the story of two friends, a boss and a peasant, somewhere in the still feudal southern Italy.

It shows mainly rural landscapes but you can see the city of Parma during the mourning scene and other ones. At the time the region still had a predominant agricultural sector and farmers were the social base of workers' movements and of the Resistance.

​@@amazingsummariesofgreatmov2857Il film è stato girato nella pianura padana vicino a casa mia tra Sabbioneta, Rivarolo del Re e altri paesi limitrofi tra le province di Cremona, Parma, Mantova, là nella Bassa,proprio là dove il fascismo dei proprietari terrieri è nato. Casa mia confina con una delle proprietà di un discendente di uno dei padroni che nel film si sono incontrati nella chiesa; nella realtà si erano incontrati nella sua casa presente anche Italo Balbo reduce dal tentativo di sottomettere gli abitanti di Parma che si erano ribellati nella famosa rivolta dell' Oltretorrente. Un film bellissimo e commovente compresa la colonna sonora.
