Images from 1890-1905 of Vienna, which was at that time the Imperial Capital Austria-Hungary.
Along with the pictures is the legendary Kaiser-Walzer op. 437 (Emperor Waltz) by Johann Strauss II.
These images are public domain from the Library of Congress.

Vienna was never a German Capital - Vienna was thriving when Berliners were still banging rocks together.

Nick Doe Vienna was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire, which would have been modern day Germany and Austria combined (along with parts of other countries, eg. northern Italy, Czech Republic, some of France and Hungary). Because of this, one could argue that it was in a sense a German, or at least a Germanic, capital.

I'm not sure all of the pictures are dated correctly. The picture at 0:40 clearly shows a Stadtbahn station built in 1898 (either Westbahnhof or Karlsplatz, the first is more likely) with fairly large trees - rather surprising just two years after completion of major construction and earthworks.

Schon immer.

Uh, not exactly. The Stadtbahn was basically the modern U6 underground, except for one crucial difference: in front of the Westbahnhof station, the tracks swayed towards the station building and the original Stadtbahn station was located under what is today the car park in front of the railway station. Mariahilfer Straße has only ever seen trams and buses!
