Composed in 1868, "Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald" was one of six Viennese waltzes by Johann Strauss II which featured a virtuoso part for zither. The title of Strauss' dance recalls the folk music of the inhabitants of the Vienna Woods.
In this waltz we had the pleasure to have soloist Mr. Roman Martin performing with us on the zither. Mr. Martin performed this piece in 1999 at the new year's concert from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Lorin Maazel:
