1904 Large Screwdriver [Remake]

The largest in antique screwdrivery, this screwdriver is based off an 1904 patent by William Ward, but with several modern improvements. These are sometimes referred to as "Perfect Handle" screwdriver due to the name H.D. Smith Co. used for there line of screwdrivers will a similar style.
Each screwdriver is made from 1144 steel, is 10.5in/26.6cm long, and weighs 1lb/454g. The square shaft is 5/8in/1.5cm thick. The blade is 1in/2.5cm wide and 1/8in/0.3cm thick. Blade is hardened to 52 Rc.
The blade on the screwdriver is now a consistent width, unlike the tapered design of most modern screwdrivers, to assist in removal of countersunk screws. The blade tip also has a hollow-ground design ensuring 1/10in/2.5mm of the tip is parallel, allowing for maximum engagement with the fastener. The handle has been re-positioned so that it is perpendicular with the blade to allow for increased strength when using the screwdriver for prying. The handle has also been designed to encapsulate the handle scales, so that even without brass pins, the scales will stay in place. The square shaft allows you to use wrenches to increase the amount of torque you can apply to the fastener if they are really stuck!

I was fixing to say, I cut dry on manual all the time, .200 to .250 with no problem. What's the thickest anyone has taken with no coolant? Beat my rookie numbers!

Personally, I have used plenty of big flathead screwdrivers during work and not once was it to turn a screw. It was always for reaching, prodding, prying or whacking things. I feel like a problem I would have with this model is that it is quite short for how thick it is.

I'm a 100% "will buy" for a smaller, more typical size. I was so, so, SO damn ready to click "buy" until I realized that it's so freaking massive that I would have no use for it other than as a pry bar, which is a shame. I just don't think I've ever come across a one inch slotted screw head in my entire life. But I do regularly need a driver for woodworking screws, i.e. the screws on the handles for hand planes that I restore, where I already use both of the HTR wrenches I own on a regular basis. But as someone who's bought and uses two of your wrenches already, mark me down as a 100% purchase for at LEAST one of these in a smaller, more "typical" size. I just can't justify the need for such an oversized one because I already have a And if we get a "silly" mini one, could it be the size of an eyeglasses scewdriver? would be totally awesome to have a driver like this to tighten up my ray bans. The mini adjustable wrench has been so useful in ways I never thought possible.

Finally! Here is my stimulus money. Also a long time fan, follower, fellow hand tool resurrector and a former machinist/programmer turned design engineer..this video really just tickled me in all the wrong places in the right ways. I'm very happy for your achievement. Even though I reached for the feed hold button a few times. The only things I can suggest is SHCS on the milling fixture (those grade 8s are looking sad) and the use of Nutella cutting fluid.

I found one of the original screwdrivers at a garage sale years ago. The old guy who owned it was a tanker in WW2, he said they were issued to them. He also said that he heard they were leftovers from WW1. I keep it in my shop apron for many uses.

8:00 - god, don't ever pinch a rag around the spindle of a turning lathe!! That will absolutely grab and wrap you around the spindle instantly.
