This is so great because of the sheer respect given to the ingredients, everything is allowed to speak for itself, there isn’t like 15 things in each dish, just quality protein and vegetables, and a good starch to finish it off.

Most animals die from being eaten alive. If it's small enough to get swallowed whole, then it gets to dissolve in stomach acid while alive, which arguably is at least as bad as getting salted and cooked alive. Oysters, for example, are often swallowed whole and alive by humans. Yeah, it's good to be human.

I understand why you would say that but the fact is: shellfish like abalone, clams, and mussels along with small crustaceans like crawfish must be cooked alive. There’s a phrase in the gulf south of the US (especially Louisiana): If you boil a hundred clams and a few were already dead prior to being cooked ruins the whole dish. Look it up if you guys don’t believe me. I’m just telling you this from a culinary student / home cook’s perspective.

The slow death of the abalone wasn't totally unexpected, as a similar video showed them cooking the prawn alive! His little feelers kept on grasping for life, his eyes bulged until the prawn Angel of Death came for him to remove him from this world of sorrows. It was like a snuff film. On the other hand, he was probably good eatin'.

Kind of feel bad for the abalone, but to be fair at least its so simple of a living form that it isnt even aware of its own existence... dam you delicious and ethically ambiguous food.

Yeah, that Abalone fought it to the bitter end! I've watched a ton of these videos and I'm convinced, the chefs only cook medium-rare. Nothing medium, medium well or well done. Whether you like it or not.

The Japanese can keep their high priced fancies. I grew up on my father's beef ranch in Louisiana. And I have been to Japan several times. In Louisiana we don't have bumper to bumper people , we don't have lack of views because everyone is dripping off of and around everything worth looking at. We don't encounter anyone some days. We have natural beauty, grain and grass raised cattle, butchered locally and prepared exquisitely. You keep Tokyo and High End Beef. I will always treasure memories of my father's home grown beef and other things, for Wagyu beef, I am sure it is good, I would probably agree but it isn't Louisiana Angus which has its own charm. You keep elbow to elbow Tokyo and I will keep wide open Bayou Country. spend your 191 dollars, I will dine just as well for much less, and no end to my joy... yours is purchased as you can both afford it, and attain it.
