I was a licensed gunsmith in NYC for many years and did warranty work for S&W and Colt. You are doing a great service to gunsmithing and firearms in these videos. The fact that you are so generous with your knowledge and time is outstanding. There was a time when NONE of this knowledge was shared to anyone. Everything you are sharing is right on the money. Best regards,

thank you for sharing, I Had a gun throwing brass every where. extractor was clocking, fixed it, but the extrator hole was filthy, bad. so I suggest to your patrons is to clean it every 3-5 hundred rnds. I mean I had chunks on the q-tip.
@fusionfirearms3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you fixed it, and yes, the extractor should be cleaned when you do regular maintenance.

Great information. The reference to slide stops didn't throw me but sometimes with my eyesight I am finding it difficult to see some of the details. Could you use a little more light and perhaps try a "picture in picture" or something to show more of the details when talking? Anyway I really enjoy these videos and get a lot out of them...thank you

I have meant to mention this earlier but, the black parts in front of your black background and black shirt makes seeing what you are doing very difficult. A light colored shirt would make things easier to see and follow. Thank you for the videos.

Extractor/firing pin stop and ejector properly setup, then the brass will quit hitting you in the forehead. Thanks!

Generally yes, sometimes you may need to change recoil spring due to loads, or ejector face angle.
@zdub84383 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You put my mind at ease. This is why I love 1911's. Figured I'd have to fit a whole new extractor and learn how to adjust the hook and tension just to be left with a big bump sticking out the back of my slide. Nice to know I can just fit a plate. Do 9mm fusion plates come oversized or are they drop in?
@fusionfirearms3 жыл бұрын
Glad we can help, 9mm stop plates come both ways. On all our Fusion pro-series parts they will be slightly oversized

I have one commander that occasionally throws an empty case under the bill of my cap. What could be going on with that? I also have a Kimber 10mm that tosses all the empty cases about ten yards over my right shoulder. Is this an extractor problem??
@fusionfirearms3 жыл бұрын
The commander, Probably just some additional extractor or ejector tuning.... On the kimber, I would first try a heavier recoil spring.
@2bitmonkey2 жыл бұрын
I think this is what is happening to my Kimber 9mm. I installed a Bullet Proof extractor but I can see it does move around. The new extractor made a big difference but not 100% fixed. I'm getting an oversized firing pin stop and I'm going to fit it to the extractor.
@fusionfirearms2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a good quality extractor is only part of the equation, the rest is all about understanding proper tuning.

I was going to send my Colt to you with feeding & extraction problems since it's 1st trip to the range. After the 2nd trip, more ammo makes & magazines with the same results it's been reprimanded to the safe the last 2 yrs. Your last vid I watched you said you weren't taking anymore outside jobs until you start getting caught up better on your production so I'll gladly wait as I'm still going to get a 2nd Fusion this time in 9mm. The Reaction in 45ACP has been perfect so it's a win-win -watch & wait.

@Joseph Storm: I had similar issues with a new 1911, would not reliably feed. It would throw cases into the parking lot, stove pipe, and anything in between all with the same ammo. The gun was destined to be a paperweight or a small door stop. I found 2 issues: the breech face was not smooth; it had a burr and the finish was messed up. This caused drag on the incoming rounds. I had to carefully stone smooth the breech face. The second issue was the ejector, the tension and shape were way out of spec. It fell out of the gun on its own when I took the stop plate off… So I adjusted the ejector tension, and had to re-shape the tip. This took many hours of learning and trials, but now I know how to fix it and could do it “in the field” if needed. Now it eats anything I feed it. Ejection is now very predictable. Properly tuning a 1911 ejector is an art form that I’m sure hoping the folks at Fusion will explain in a future video. If only one ammo is used it can be tuned to perfection and it runs like a wood chipper. There are minor compromises to make your gun omnivorous. Don’t sweat it, your safe queen is not destined to stay there long.

@@mrbreakit6063 Thanks for all of that. This is something I can put to use & try right now & I really appreciate the time you put into this helpful info.
@mrbreakit60633 жыл бұрын
@@josephstorm6093 you’re quite welcome. There are a lot of variables, and hopefully it’s something simple causing the issue. At the very least, you’ll get the chance to increase your knowledge about the tools you have, and hopefully get a chance to use it without wanting to throw it. To be clear, I’m not a gunsmith. I just happen to have a similar issue and no one to bring it to, so I spent many hours reading armorers manuals and a lot of trial and error. A tight 1911 shoots like a dream- until it doesn’t. Best of luck!

Great content. Is the background music (noise) really adding, or is it just something the watchers have to filter out in their minds as they're trying to understand what you're saying?

The extractor was something that I wanted already done. Firing pin stop are more likeable than extractors to me. I won't touch either to they wear.

How about off center primer strike just built a fusion commander frame with a officer slide I'm getting a low primer strike marked the top of the rounds and the strike is below center could it be a link that's too long
@fusionfirearms3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can change out the link, but if you are not having any ignition issues, I would just shoot it. Also, Check and make sure you are not having any issues with binding in your lock-up. Look at the back of the barrel feet, & the frame relief at the bulkhead.

Just tried bending the extractor using this method. I would rather buy the tool to do this it's much faster and easier. I don't have all day to play with the extractor.
@fusionfirearms Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing, but for most folks this will not take all day and when many people are only occasionally doing this, it is not worth the expense of the tool, or fixture.
@dannygreen5878 Жыл бұрын
@@fusionfirearms Really? It's $40 and works better than a vise. This extractor I have is off of one of your guns that wasn't adjusted very well in the first place. It was barely extracting and throwing the casings at my feet.
