I have a Colt Series 70 that started out life as a basic Colt .45 acp. I sent it in to Wilson Combat in 1988 and had it completely revamped replacing the standard parts with a stainless match barrel, stainless custom hammer and trigger, stainless ambidextrous safety and Bomar sights. The front strap was checkered and the entire gun was hard chromed. I have several Wilson 47 D magazines that have functioned well.

Your magazines are worth every penny. They eliminated issues I was having in one of my 1911s. I don’t even try the stock mags when I buy a new 1911 now. What I need is for Wilson Combat to make mags for the Kimber Micro380 and Sig P238 - I’ve not had any issues, but I’d feel much more confident if I was carrying WC mags in my micro 1911s.

I carry 3 of the black Vickers magazines every day, they're my range magazines as well. They've never let me down!! Don't slip on ice and fall on your pistol though, the vickers baseplates leave a really nasty bruise. Ask me how I know!

In the mid 1970s I picked up a Colt Series Mark 4 Series 70 at a gun show when I lived in suburban St. Louis, Mo . After relocating to Florida in the early 80s I sent that gun to Wilson who offered a customized package to redo the gun which included match grade parts , Bomar sights, replacement of the hammer and trigger and the entire gun was fully hard chromed. Over the years I have continued to add Wilson 47D magazines which function perfectly.

My favorite magazine for the past 30 years has been the Wilson 47, 7 round magazine. It’s more or less a perfect magazine, after removing the Delrin baseplate and installing an aluminum or steel baseplate. I have at least 21 8 round magazines but Inprefer the 7 round magazine for its longevity. I don’t care for the newer magazines with the wider flaired baseplate mainly because some magazine well funnels do not work with that design. I think I must have about 80+ standard 47 7 round magazines. The Miniature Machine Corp. (MMC) all steel 7 round magazine with welded baseplate and rounded follower is a nice magazine for the money. About 16 dollars apiece and are almost, almost as good as the Wilson 47 7 round magazine. I understand Tripp Cobra magazines are supposed to be a high performance magazine as well, but is rather costly. There is a trademarked variant of the Tripp-Cobra magazine on eBay, and I bought 2 lots of 5 of them and are very impressed with them. Overall, I still prefer the standard 47 7 round magazine, however with steel or aluminum baseplates.

I always had great luck with the 47D's but truth be told, the old Chip McCormick Power Mags were at least as good. IIRC Wilson Combat bought them out not long ago.

I have 47ds for my older CQB and I continually have issues with the mags not locking the slide open. I even replaced the springs and followers and still have the issue. I figure it must be me..

Great stuff! Please never forget us 38 super guys. I depend on only Wilson Combat mags for the super you built me back in 96. It still draws a crowd at the range by the way. 25 years and I am still waiting for my first malfunction.

I was just on the WC website last night shopping 45 magazines. I cc so none of the extended magazines or big base bumpers appeal to me. I don't currently own a WC magazine but soon will. I have Colt, Kimber, and EB mostly because they came with the gun or the local gun shop stocked them. The old Colt probably needs a spring. The Kimber is fairly new and works well in the gun it came in. The EB has funky looking lips and I have had feed issues when using it in the Colt. My dream magazine would be a sturdy 7 round designed for cc. The most reliable with the smallest foot print. I'd love to hear more about polymer v. steel followers. This vid has put the idea in my head that maybe I should try one of the more expensive magazines. So soon I'll know how a WC mag works in my guns. I'd love more videos on how to rebuild an older 45. I have replaced parts one at a time... slide release, springs, extractor, and barrel link. I was stunned at the difference a new barrel link made.

I bought a 3-pack of 7rd Officers length 1911 mags all marked Nighthawk Custom, no Wilson markings, but same polymer base and follower and same steel body shape as the 47 series. Must be rebranded Wilson Combat mags. Work great of course!

@@Vamike9 Hence I said you had a mag issue. Remington mags work best in Remington pistols and are usually 7 rounds. You should chamber a round then reload the mag if you feel better about having eight rounds. I find shot placement is much more important then capacity.

I had the 9mm mags. Great mag but did not work well in a Sig Tacops 9mm 1911. The integrated feed ramp would ride over the edge of the front of the mag during firing and FUBAR everything. A good file job and a 1,000 late they run well.

I love the 47D but the new 500 series for 9mm have a small hump where the bullet leaves the lips that prevents the slide from going into battery because it drags on the underside of the slide. The only way I have been able to get those mags to work is to remove that hump on a belt sander and make it level with the feed lips. The 920 mags don’t have that hump so they work great, but only come in 9 round versions. The 500 series mags also sit extremely high in all my 9mms, which makes inserting a full mag on a closed slide very difficult. Not a fan of the new 9mm design at all.

I bought 5 of the Wilson Combat 1911 10 round magz and if I load anymore than 5 rounds they don't feed proper into my 1911. The front of the bullet gets pushed downwards and therefore doesn't chamber the round. Anyone know how to fix this??? Wilson Combat any suggestions???

Just picked up a Tisas 1911 Duty SS45. I purchased an 8 round Wilson Combat mag and it would not seat in the gun unless I pressed the mag release button. Not sure why that was but purchased 3 Chip McCormack mags and waiting for delivery. Any ideas?

My 47d mag has some loading issues? The bullets like flatten out in the mag and when the next round feeds up it’s not on an angel it’s flat and catches on the front of the magazine? 40$ mags what’s up with that? The follower moves up and down on the spring as well is that normal? It’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen???

Hello Wilson Combat, thanks for the video on your magazines. A couple of questions though. With brand new 47D 8-round magazines in .45 ACP, how long would you say that you can leave them loaded without weakening the spring? Is this something measured in months, or years? My second question is this. If you are running 47Ds in a defense gun, do you typically carry 8+1, or just 8 total in the 1911? Finally, do you consider your 10 round .45 ACP magazines reliable as spare magazines for duty use? Thanks.

Tom Crawford Leaving magazines loaded doesn’t wear a spring out, loading and rapid unloading wears the spring. Wilson uses good springs that last, I wouldn’t be concerned unless you shoot a lot of competition. I load and carry 8+1=9 in my carry guns. In 29 years, Wilson 47D magazines have proved reliable in all my 1911 pistols on duty, in training and competition. I’ve abused Wilson 8 and 10 round magazines shooting USPSA, IPDA, NRA, Speed Steel and Pin competitions for 20+ years. In my opinion, they are the best magazine on the market. I hope this helps a bit.

I purchased 4 Wilson Combat 47D mags recently. When I got home, I loaded one of them with Winchester white box and noticed something very interesting to me. I noticed the last 4 rounds were a little tight in loading and the 8th round took a nose dive and locked up in a downward position. It was a bitch stripping it from the mag. The following 3 rounds were almost as tough to unload. So, I unloaded it completely and reloaded it with Sig Elite which loaded and unloaded smooth as butter. I tried the same experiment with all my 47D mags, 7 in total, with the exact same results. Has anyone else experienced this issue, or am I the last person to learn about this?

Respectfully, since you guys mentioned Vickers, but not Chip McCormick, I'll do it for you. The double rail feed lips and "new" metal 9mm 1911 follower are Chip designs. Wilson bought the company when Chip retired and is now using both designs. A tip of the hat to Chip would've been appropriate here.

I bought 4 of these 47 D Wilson Combat 8 round magazines, but I don’t think I like them. They are so tight. Not with the loading, but fitting in the gun. I physically cannot get the mag to lock in if I put it in slowly. I have to smack it as hard as I can. And I bought 4, so it’s not that one is odd. It is all of them.

Rounds rattle in them more than their other mags. They are almost too noisy for me to carry. Even in the gun. Very well built and reliable, but noisy as hell when you are walking.

the 1911 45 cal is my favorite to shoot .. yes I own a lot of 9mm's (peer pressure and youtube).. but the 45 is always pegs the fun-meter .. and bill wilson has made the best in my opinion .. I own one and it just shoots so well .. I'd own a bunch more if they weren't so darn expensive .. I use his magazines in my dan wesson, my sigs, my colt gold cups, and my springfield armory, and, oh almost forgot, my Ruger1911s .. so, yes I do like the 1911s but the Wilson Combat is the cat's meow .. unfortunately his mag does not fit my Star PD .. great little 1911-pattern gun that has been forgotten ... wish somebody would bring an improved version of that little beauty back from the past .. love the caliber and bill wilson does it right .. while I have equal respect for the 9mm and it is sure fun to shoot I've always considered it a solution to a problem that didn't exist .. but bills 1911's .. yeah, love them
