That cougar watches over the bridge now. It would have lots of partridge on that road to eat, when grouse come out to eat the little pebbles and gravel. Rabbits too, like the one you saw- The cougar probably has that path on its hunting route. Awesome to see those tracks though. I know there was debate a few years back if cougars were in North Western Ontario. I guess the government figures the bridge is de-commissioned enough? I'm sure the bridge was state of the art for 1912. Think of the long hours of men building that bridge, there must have been a bush camp near by that those iron and masonry workers stayed while working on it. I can picture a long ago train travelling it's course on an icy winter morning, it's whistle shattering the frost bitten air, like a crack in the sky. In Summer, The train clacking along, scattering any stones on the tracks into a pebble rain, creating a cacophony of frantic clicking grasshoppers in the meadow below. Very cool adventure to go and check out that old road and bridge. Get your steps in for the day doing interesting stuff like that.

That was good. Little adventure. Finally got old bridge. I would have walked walked across it. No I wouldn't have went across. I'm not good at Heights anymore. Getting too old for that. Other than that good stuff 👍👍🙂🇨🇦

That’s a huge bridge. I wonder if there’s anything interesting further down the tracks like more bridges.

I actually just looked out of curriousity and there's two more but I'm not sure about access as everything seems to be limiting our use of Crownland these days!

When I went to Lakehead University long ago there were "unconfirmed" sightings of cougars in NW Ontario. Yes there were plants from the MNR. Maybe a few left from a natural population. Well locally there was a sighting (Midwestern Ontario around Mildmay) and the MNR was called but they said there wasn't any here. So the Farmer said he would shoot it and bring it in. With in minutes the police were everywhere to protect something that was not here!

@@OutdoorRob Were you able to get down and see the laker that had hull damage? I understand it's in Thunder Bay
@OutdoorRob
@OutdoorRob 29 күн бұрын
I did get some shots of it but not till after they leveled her out. The damage is underwater in the form of a 13' crack in her hull. for a 72 year old ship I think this will be a death blow for her. They can patch it no problem but unless you change all the hull plating who's to say it won't crack somewhere else and I don't think the Company will spend that money on her. The Company buys old boats, retrofits them and then run them till they're scrap. The sent a couple to scrap last year. They're damn lucky they didn't break in half and sink! I think the ship is done but we'll see in the long run I guess. A temporary patch is on it now and they're waiting for another ship to come up so that they can unload the Taconite (iron ore) from her. Then she'll probably head to Duluth shipyards as our lame shipyards is closed again.

@@OutdoorRobThanks for update. Sounds like she hit something underwater. I guess I'll know more when she appears on Duluth Harbor Cam.

Didn't hit anything, just age and stress from years of heavy loads and waves flexing the hull.

I am surprised it wasn't repurposed as an ATV trail bridge . What is more dangerous, a two legged cougar or a four legged one ? Asking for a friend !!!!
@OutdoorRob
@OutdoorRob 29 күн бұрын
It was used by hunters and people just driving through the area until the MNR had it dismantled. From the looks of it some of the beams have shifted so I'm sure it was a liability and safety thing. Thanks Vance!
