Unsung heroes, the camera operators. The guys running those rigs are master at what they do. Wish they got more accolades 'cause without them these films just couldn't happen.
@adamsouth29

In the film Victoria which is done in 1 shot, the camera operator has his credit play first before anyone else's name, think it's the only film that has ever done that, rightfully so
@scottg3110
@scottg3110 4 жыл бұрын
Why should a moviegoer care one wit about the camera operator? It's a film...a story. It's meant to entertain. If the entire package is good...then it's called a 'good movie'. A TEAM of people make it so. This film was dull....rather uninspired. The cinematography was novel for about 30 minutes...then became an irritation.

Sam should be given an Oscar just for the spectacular making off and this videoclip. Incredible. I was a school boy in the 60s and we studied the first world war. Always fascinated by war and the tragedy that surrounded it but school teachers and books just did not give me ( despite the fact we were too immature to understand, we would never truly understand suffering back then ) enough of how war is a horrid bizarre waste of human life and all that is involved in it. We really have not learnt enough even in the 21st century from our errors. Thanks to film, we can see just how disgraceful we are as object on this planet.

Almost flawless. The cgi transition when he jumps into the water wasn't very well executed, I don't understand why they didn't go the extra mile there. *This Movie had a very special involvement for me in that my wife's father (Alfred Collington RGA S/N 38605) fought in WW1 and was on the Somme in 1916 and at Lieven (Near Mons) in May 1917 when struck with a German Shell and subsequently lost his leg. He went on to a full active life and died in 1981 aged 88. His Brother John 'James' Collington (Sherwood Foresters) was killed in action at Richbourg in 1915 age 28 and is buried in Estaires Communal Cemetery which we visited in 2016 on the 100th Commemoration of the Somme. A brilliant film 'Sam' and well worth Playing it again'*

Sir.GAWAIN, I haven’t seen Dunkirk. But yes I agree the simple story makes it easy to follow along. I’m just saying there’s no deep, philosophical dialogue or deep character development. But it doesn’t need to I suppose. This film will win all the technical awards, just not best screenplay.

As an historian, let me say no film can ever be perfectly hundred percent accurate, simply because we don't have a time machine to go back to April 6, 1917. We can only allow the film to capture the Zeitgeist, the spirit of the time and enjoy the ride. With that being said, yes the film does make a few errors historically. One that all films make is that artillery doesn't just push people on the ground, it tears them to pieces. Not something I ever want to see again, we ascribe that to artistic license.

What a great, great movie !!!!! I have one nagging question, tho: I'm wondering if radio communication hadn't been invented at that time: it would have made relaying the all-important message much faster and easier than sending 2 young soldiers to deliver it. (Fyi, I've just watched the clips, not the entire movie).
