@R_KHANA Indeed, WWI pilots were considered gentlemen and admired by colleagues and enemies alike, German pilot Manfred von Richtofen the Red Baron's burial by the British is probably the best image of that. This guy was probably very young and felt afraid for his life.

There are literally two black soldiers sitting next to the tree Schofield wakes up on in the opening scene. They were there in the capacity that you would have seen them in those specific units. You see four black soldiers in this film and one Indian soldier. There were many black soldiers in regular British units but you would have seen them mainly as you see them in the film. Maybe one or two in a battalion. The British West Indies Regiment was the only all black British unit in WW1 they were allowed to fight in Africa, and the Middle East, not Europe. In Europe they were delegated to Supply and pioneer duty.

The rifles they were using at that time (Lee-Enfield Mk. 3 and Mauser K98) were excellent quality rifles. Both of them were carried right on into WWII by British and German armed forces, as was the US Springfield M1903, at least at the beginning of the war - but the other two rifles served throughout. What limited their accuracy usually was the training of the shooter, not the quality of the equipment.

Black and other colonial soldiers in the WW1 British Army are very often forgotten. They also were not allowed to fight on the western front. Britain believed that if colonial soldiers regularly fought against white Europeans, it would increase the likelihood of them undermining British rule. Sad shit.
@daquaviousbingleton97634 ай бұрын
I’m not being funny there were under 20000 of them, that might be why they are forgotten about compared to about 6 million men that were sent over so unless you are making a thing specifically about those men it’s very very unlikely they come up with

French-African soldiers fought on the Western Front, as well as African-Americans who fought under the French banner such as the Harlem Hellfighters.
@kevinb12774 ай бұрын
@@stageblood9935 Maybe someone should make a movie about them instead of just constantly complaining by black people that there aren't black people in period pieces when they weren't present. It's like the afro-centrists complaining there's no blacks in shogun. Tell your own stories through art instead of just constantly needing to see yourself in others stories.

@MrAsdfasdfsadfasdfsa4 ай бұрын
I think in WWI, France was the only country that had a racially integrated army, and similar to the US, UK had very few black soldiers/battalions on the western front, largely using the African and west indian colonies as either non-combat or combat in Africa which is why the Harlem Hellfighters mostly fought with the French Army. If you ever wanna hear a pretty dope true story with a pretty lousy ending, look up Henry Johnson of the Harlem Hellfighters. I think there's a cool Extra Credits History video his unit and his story
