One thing I've done that has worked, is soak the clockworks in mineral spirits, agitate them, rinse, and oil them. Most of the clocks I've picked up in my area were sitting on a mantle above the fireplace for 80 years and just needed a cleaning of the soot and oiling. Thank you for sharing, and I admire your willingness to open these things up and have a go at them.

Thanks, I’ve seen no evidence of soot, but I think the springs need to be cleaned and oiled or replaced.

@@mherzog7 The mineral spirits might loosen up the plomerized oil and free things up. I once had to use a pair of players and a blowtorch to free up an old record player. That was fun, especially when you don't know what you're doing. I enjoy your videos. Thank you.

I think you're the only person I've found who posts the clocks they didn't get working - very useful and informative. Thanks for the video!

Thank you. Some of these clocks seem so interesting that even if it turns out that I can’t fix it. I think it’s still worth seeing.

I love watching you work on a clock. I'm sure you could continue to disassemble this movement , clean all the parts and the springs. You may have to replace the springs. You should be able to get them from Timesavers. Please don't give up on this wonderful clock. I know you can do it!

good evening master the clock did a good job and ok, you have to adjust the gallows arm because it is not plumb you have to bend it slightly until the ticking is at a balanced duo. I hope you find this information useful

Try to adjust the small piece that also holds the pendulum spring. Moving it up or down on one or both sides changes the position of the pallet versus the anchor wheel. I usually put it as high as possible without freeing the anchor wheel, then work my way closer to a position that seems right for me. If the pallet reaches too far into the anchor wheel, the clock will stop sooner or later. You also have to set the rotation of the pallet towards the anchor wheel. The arbor has a small clutch that allows you to rotate the pallet on the arbor. Don't bend the pendulum leader! Good luck, this seems to be a nice clockwork!

Mark , maybe put some wind on the strike side and turn the hands to see if it would strike , if it is jammed it might stop the clock from running. I like your way of repairing clocks and showing us how you do it.

Thanks, I did not show it, but once I put the click back in position, moving the hands got the clock to strike on both the hour and half hour.

Many times the mainsprings are begging to work but have so much old dried grease on them, and perhaps rust, that they no longer slip nicely against each other delivering smooth power. Sometimes a nice cleaning and oiling is all that's needed but sometimes new ones must be sought. New springs need to be cleaned as well as they often have a preservative coating on them to prevent rust. 😁

a tooth pick, cotton buds ( q tips) iso-propyl alcohol (100%) clean all visible pivots and bushings use a tooth pick to gentle remove any muck from the pivots then oil the pivots check to see if the the fly wheels are in the right place oil the pivots with some of these movements you can move the crutch slightly to the left or right to align the verge ( pallet) with the pallet wheel and get the center of gravity for the pendulum and et voila they can fire up. If you are taking these movements apart pay particular attention to the position of the snail, the rack will adjust itself if you go through a full rotation of the minute hand when attached to the mechanism might be this clock needs some rebushing in the pivot holes

Do we need a clock maker to adjust the chime or can it be done by owner; it chimes one hour ahead of the actual time .... ???

Remove the minute hand and the hour hand. Re-seat the minute hand and advance it till it chimes the hour. Remove minute hand and seat hour hand pointing to that hour. Reseat minute hand on the 12.
