CORRECTION: I use the term "Free Shooter" incorrectly in this video. The term refers to irregulars and not military sharpshooters.
There are so few films about the First World War that actually get it right. I would strongly consider 1917 as being among those select few. Not only does the film capture an overall aesthetic of the war exceptionally well, with its surreal storytelling and excellent set design; in many ways it understands the early 20th Century on its own terms. It treats its characters as fully human moral agents navigating a wartime environment, rather than the tired old tropes we're so used to seeing. In this video, I go into what makes me enjoy this film so much, in full spoliery detail!
