I participated in an orphan car rally ten years ago. There was a young man in his twenties with a 1920 Hupmobile like this one. It was all original, and it ran like a top. He kept up with all the other cars. At first glance it looked rough, but everyone loved it, including me. Great episode.

For WYR, first scenario Hupmobile, second scenario Hudson 6. Those running boards were almost wide enough to hold passengers. And I really like the leather seats!

Hi Jay! Wish I'd have seen that Hupp at the NFL Hall of Fame! Don't remember seeing it there, seems like I would have taken a pic had it been there. Did the Hall of Fame, McKinley Memorial and Museum last time that I was up there. If the auto museum had been there and we missed it, I would be MAD, because that looks cool! You know why the 1920 Hupp was in the Hall of Fame? The NFL was actually formed in the local Canton Hupmobile dealership in 1920! I'm sure all the football fans know about that. WYR's wanted to pick the HUPP in the worst way but DUDE you gave me a Haynes in the first one!! Made in Indiana! Number two there was a HUDSON SIX!!! Still love the Hupmobile, though! My Dad once told me that when he was a kid a "bulldog hupp" ran over one of his feet! He was uninjured as the dirt was soft under his foot!! This would have been in the 1920's and the Hupp at least 10 years old or more!

Jay, just discovered something of interest to all like us. Crazy '80s Car Museum, Dwight, Illinois. Features everyday cars and other memorabilia from mid-70s to late '80s. This is the era when government intervention, OPEC discourse and Japanese innovation redirected everything automotive in the USA.

That Hupp was a pretty nice car for 1920. I wish you had sat in the back seat, it looked like it had acres of kneeroom! Awesome video, but the NTT segment- man, I'm old, but not old enough to know an Eddie Cantor song! I know who he was, but not his music. Great vid, Jay!

Another great episode, Jay. I have watched other producers car videos. Some of them have attempted to copy you, but they can't quite do it. WYR Chandler, and Hupmobile . Among the affordable cars that didn't make ut out of the depression, I always liked Hup. It is amazing that Hup could be taken seriously let alone start a car company and attract investors with only a few thousand dollars.

No safety locks against theft were common in vehicles built 104 years ago. All vehicles were built on frames, essentially trucks, easy to modify into trucks for any personal or commercial needs. The ground clearance was better than in modern trucks. Even today in 2024 the design of commercial trucks include fenders with headlights on them like in all vehicles built untill the end of 1950ties.

4:39 _"... changed their name to RCH, ..."_ When I was young, back in the 1970s, RCH was a, ahem, measurement, a very small measurement, which I can't type here, but a red something hair. I guess about 1/32 nd.

Would You Rather: 1. Hupmobile R Series. 2. 1920 Nash, always a sucker for anything Nash or AMC. My impression is that a lot of smaller, independent auto makers wanted to cash in on the economic boom of the Roaring 'Twenties by getting into upscale high profit margin cars, which was fine as long as the 'Twenties roared, but when they crashed, those independents were left holding the bag with an upscale product nobody could afford.

That's a clean and basic early auto...could almost be the "generic" auto of the early 20's. When I think of shelling out the equivalent of almost $20k for this vehicle new it doesn't seem like such a deal.😐 I'm thinking I'd go with the Chandler or Nash over this buggy, but then simple back then was probably better!
