Very nice find! These early small size stars are pretty rare. In the Track and Price Census, only 10 of these are recorded, including the one shown. This note was listed from a previous sale in 2011 for $789.99 and was listed in grade 25. Thought you might like to know. It never hurts to have more information. Also, per the Standard Guide to Small Size U.S. Paper Money, only 24,000 were printed.

Nice $50 ★! Looking at that guide, I would say that Dan would consider the Minneapolis version out of his range, I know it is out of mine barring actually playing and winning the lottery. Can't wait to see what the future has in store for stars, I have already stated my guesses about them. Those $50s in general were amongst my favorite designs of small sized notes, and definitely an area that I am looking into expanding soon.

The Federal Reserve Notes made from 1928-1995 have to be my favorite, especially the ones made before 1977! Also, you have to admit, the most useless Dollar Bill Series of All Time is the recent 2017 A! 😏

You're exactly right about 10's and 50's, especially small heads, even the modern 10's and 50's to a point.In the past couple years,Ive only come across a few of the $10 & $50 starnotes.Great pickup at that price 👍

As a cashier, I sort of am an anomaly. I see plenty of $10s and $50s on a near daily basis. However, they are indeed mostly modern, all colorized with the exception of a few monochrome $50s throughout the year. $10s, I still see them in monochrome and smallhead often enough, but mostly post 1990 with the security thread. Found a real shocker yesterday, a Series 1985 $10, it was in rough shape, but added it to my collection.

Potential topic for a next video: interacting with tellers. Since I started collecting currency from the bank, I always have a hard time explaining to tellers that I am turning in a bunch of singles and requesting a new batch. They give me a strange or confused look at first. I have to explain to them I am a currency collector which tends to get things going. Is there an easier way of saying "hey I want to swap out the singles for different ones" or how do you usually go about picking up your weekly $1,000 singles because I am sure it has now become routine. Do you do it weekly from the same bank or different banks? And do you ever request straps specifically from the federal reserve versus locally circulated bills? Or it doesn't matter as much? Also, how do you ask tellers for older bills? I have asked a few times and have gotten responses like "no" or "yes I see them, and I take them" - one of the tellers is taking all the old stuff on site! Anyway, would appreciate a video topic on this if possible!

Wow! You are on the way to getting banned from your bank. It costs the bank money to order singles. It also costs the bank money to send them back to the reserve. You are creating a ton of work for your bank and costing them time and money. I do not recommend using the same bank. I get my singles from one bank. They have a bunch of people who regularly deposit large amounts of singles. They cater towards working people. Many bartenders, waitresses, and even a stripper or 2. When my bank gets 1000, they call me. I’m actually saving them money by taking the singles they would otherwise have to pay to send back. I return singles (200 at a time) to many other banks and branches. No one will ever get mad at 2 straps. While I’m doing this, I also make the comment, “ unless you want more?!”. Sometimes they say they need singles and take them all. Once again, I just saved them the cost of ordering money. Even when I brought back 10,000 singles from Vegas, I returned them 200 at a time to over 33 branches over the course of 2 weeks. No one got mad and everyone was happy to see me. That’s my advice. Good luck!

@@Stuplubakcurrency I only ever request 200-300 singles at a time, I didn't know the bank can call you telling you that you can come pick up 1,000 singles. How do you set that up, with a teller? And how often do they call you? With it being a bank, I imagine they see money come and go pretty quickly, so I'd think they would have 1,000 singles available often, no?

@@wakeupitsmagic I have been there a long time. I have always been friendly with the tellers even before I started strap searching. It’s a credit union so it’s a much more relaxed atmosphere. I thought you were doing 1000. If it’s just 2-4 straps you should be fine but I would certainly dump them somewhere else. At the very least, it gives you a reason to go to another bank and see if they have any older notes. It’s all about being friendly and actually taking the stuff they offer.

Is there a good guide for collecting notes? Coins are easy because you can look up the mintages and get the date run. For example Mercury dimes 1916-1945 and then you've got P D and S typically - maybe some years skip the S and just have P and D. With notes I haven't seen anything like that if someone wanted to collect $20s you have gold certificates, the Hawaii, and Africa notes. National bank notes then the regular small head notes and varying print runs 2021, 2017, 1993, 1985, 1934 etc... Or with $1s, $5s, and $10s you've got different years and different color seals along with silver certificates. Then to top it all off there are 12 Federal Reserve Banks so maybe you want to focus on the bank closest to your state for me that would be San Francisco for others maybe New York or Ohio. There's a lot more when it comes to collecting notes it seems. And sure you could collect all the print run years for a given denomination + a note for each of the 12 banks, which seems extreme! I'm sure there are a handful of collections doing just that though.

@Stuplubakcurrency

They are no longer required to print notes in order. Stars were used as space fillers to keep the numbers correct. They are still printing stars but I don’t know what they will use them for.

That is an amazing note you have, very expensive as well 😄 I have a question about something different: how much does a 1928 $1 LT cost is it really supposed to be in the 140-200 range? I know it depends on condition but some prices seem inflated.
