Steve has such a vast knowledge of so many cars and parts. Really amazing! Pleasure to,watch.

Another worthwhile video, the (relatively) mechanical simplicity is the key to automotive engineering. Steve is a pro.

At least it didn't get a stuck valve from the old fuel! Carb adjustments from inside the car? I love that! XD

I remember reading a story, years ago, about how Henry Ford challenged the engineers as they iterated the design of the carburetor to reduce the number of fasteners clamping the two halves together. They ended up with one, which the video confirms. 👍

With that one bolt you can easily service the carb with the rest of it still bolted in the car!

Great news! Another video from This Week With Cars. Enjoy every single one. Amazing you can put the new and old parts together and not have heart problems leaving parts on the bench when the job is done.

Interesting video on rebuilding an old carburettor. She is now running quite well, she didn't like the chocolate milk! Thanks Steve, soon be time for a run.👍👍

A thorough clean ['sonic not required] is about all that is required. The new jets are not as accurate as original ones which are quite OK to re use. You do not need extra modern plastic fuel filters added. You need to read up on carby adjustment & starting proceedure if no prior knowledge. These cars are simple but guessing will not make them run great.

Some of the replacement carburetor rebuild kits have jets that are not the correct size! It's a good idea to check the length and the orifice sizes before replacing the originals, which in MANY cases are better than the new ones!

That long jet (idle jet) you put into the top casting does not get a gasket.. It has a tapered fit into the casting.. Like a previous comment I read I want to get some of the solution you used to get the castings that clean after in an ultrasonic cleaner!!

There's a problem I've run into on older carburettors with the butterfly shaft wearing the throttle shaft bushing out of round so there is a vacuum leak around the shaft. This makes it practically impossible to get a smooth idle. You don't notice when you're in the other circuits but it's a pain at idle. Have you ever run into this? You diagnose it by shooting carb cleaner at the shaft bushing to see if the idle changes. If it does; you've got a leak.

I had a Datsun 240Z for almost 30 years. Dual Hitachi carbs that were a copy of the SU English carbs. When I had to get it smogged the technician (was the father of a friend of a friend) saw the throttle shaft area worn. Said I can either put a dab of Vaseline on throttle shaft end to seal up leak for the next time to re-smog test or get carb throttle shaft area rebushed. Had bushings installed and smogged no problem the next time. For a temp fix to get things dialed in some Vaseline should work ok.

Well done. Wish you'd have emphasized the importance of the spacer/washers under the float valve. So many Model A's leak gas out the carburetor because of an incorrect float level.

Good work Steve. Sounds a tad rich. Some of the repro jets are a little bit too big, causing rich mixture. See how it runs with the GAV closed. If it won't lean out, swap the original jets back in. Curious why you opted to leave the casting bare instead of paining it black.

Spark timing? Is it fixed mechanical or allow for some adjustment? Seems a little retarded. Very cool car. Amazing can get parts for it easier than some much newer cars I've owned.

Hi Steve , I too wonder what fluid you used in the ultrasonic cleaner . I have cleaned many Carbys in my ultrasonic tank using water and clean green detergent but cannot get your results. I also find upon removal from the tank you must dry the Carby instantly or it starts to rust . Regards from down under Russell 🦘🦘
