Oh my gosh, Paul, that roadster is "Gertrude" !!! I sold "Gertrude" to Jim last year. "Gertrude" was in our family for 22 years. When I purchased the car, the only "upgrades" were the 6 volt alternator, oil filter, and the transistorized ignition. The engine and trans were rebuilt just before I purchased the car, and I immediately replaced the top with a LeBarron Bonnie assembly and all new tires. I also had the brakes upgraded with bonded linings and iron drums. The rear differential was also rebuilt by a club member who had a Model A repair shop in Costa Mesa. This car got me into the Orange County Model A club, and I really enjoyed driving this car; it never broke down the entire time we owned it. I am retired and now live in Redding, Ca. and I must say that we certainly miss Gertrude (Roady). I am so blessed that you and "Model T" own Gertrude; I have followed you on KZbin for the past 2 years. You both are a tremendous resource for the Model A hobby; you and Model T are my heroes. I hope that one day I can meet you and Model T at some function. This video has really made my day...... thank you !!

Beautiful car; we gotta realize that in almost 100 years some “mods, retrofits and customizations” should be expected. Some of the rust at the floor could be patched and the surface rust could be treated with rust converter and even paint. This one landed in the best hands possible. Congratulations Paul!

I have never had one of the older Fords but the simplicity of these cars is their selling point. No windows, manual top, and power steering by armstrong. What's not to like. Unlike today, or even older muscle cars, there are no complicated electronics. I know a guy who has one and he added a more medern 3 speed and a remote water squirter, to squirt onlookers with a cooling burst of water, a real attention getter. I look forward to your series (new subscriber)..

I just sold the 1929 pick-up truck I restored in 1983. It was heartbreaking to see her go but our retirement home in AZ had no room in the garage for it and it went as part of our downsizing. Mine was restored completely stock and fun to drive, but it was needing some additional work after using it for 39 years. I know my Jeep Cherokee will not likely be on the road after 94 years and it was a pleasure to have been custodian of the Model A for the few decades that I owned her. She went to good home with a fellow who owned a Roadster and was looking for a pick-up to carry things in.

I really enjoy your channel, thank you for your time. I am 64.8 years old and holding, but despite having entered high school in 1971, I drove a 29 Model A Tudor to school my sophomore and junior years. Why not senior year? Because I found a 1928 Chevy National 4-door in a barn an hour wast of our home in Saginaw, MI. It had the original interior, no rust and ran great. I drove that car for two years as my only car. I currently have a 1926 Chevy roadster and a few other cars of more current times (1941), but the Model A was by far the most enjoyable car to drive (of those before 1930) because it was so dependable. I do believe it ranks as one of the best designed and manufactured cars, period. As an engineer, I recommend that all mechanical and manufacturing engineers disassemble and reassemble a Model A if they want to learn about great design and manufacturing techniques.

A friend of mine got driven to and from her wedding in one of those in Spain. The spouses left the church in the rumble seat, that in spanish is commonly known as "ahí te pudras" (there you rot). The marriage lasted some time but not too long. The excelent Ford ride quality had nothing to do with the marriage failure. Wish I had the money to have one.

The color is different, but that's what makes it unique. Making As great again is my favorite thing on the weekends to watch from all your videos paul. Luckily it's not an earl shive paint job. Not sure if they were in California. Paint everything not taped by the customer. That's what I would love is a model a convertible. Since I'm in michigan a huge michigan wolverines fan I would like a navy blue with yellow color combo. Calling it Go Blue. Anyways. I look forward to your progress on the new A. Sad to say paul I have a 3mm stone left mid ureter and another stone lower right ureter at the same time. But hope I get lucky like you an pass them. Hate the procedures. I dont know why anyone would NOT want to jump at a chance to own this cool roadster. If they are purists, there doesnt seem to be anything on this car that couldn't be changed back to a more authentic appearance. It's not too big a deal to repaint the fenders black. I like the warm tan colors. They match the nice temperate weather you have, which is great for top-down driving. Looking forward to the videos.

Because my teen years were spent working as bag boy earning enough soup-up money to desecrate the little Ford, I smoked and drank less than my now dead contemporaries. That turn signal "stalk" looked like what I had in a '49 Plymouth way back in the early '80s! I was never a "Ford guy" per se, But when I retire in a few years, a Model "A" (ANY body style!) will be what I'm going to get. Even though I was born in '62 so such a car should hold no "nostalgia", I never "got" that. The 1920s to 1950s cars hold more of my interest than do cars of the '60s and '70s. There could be the RAREST 'Cuda at a show, and I'm going "gaga" over the '51 Packard or the '36 Plymouth. Model "A"s are REMARKABLE in like a "Tri-Five" Chevy, It's not only a CLASSIC, But they can be DRIVEN. I don't give a dang about a "classic" car that CAN'T be driven. Cars are meant to be driven!

I think the color is just fine and one thing I always recommend is Amsoil Z-rod 10W-30 oil and the Amsoil filter too. Z-Rod oil is designed for classic and antique cars that require zinc in the oil such as this one. When I changed my ‘62 Galaxie over to the Z-Rod I noticed an immediate difference as soon as the engine started. I use Amsoil in all my vehicles. I tell people in the comments section “get that modern oil out of that old fashioned engine! It has no zinc in it!” The zinc does matter and the Z-Rod will give it to you.

Nice looking car. Especially the foldable top is something I would like to have on my 1929 Roadster Pickup. I am a bit surprised why you want to replace the Tillotson by a (original) Zenith. My Roadster Picktup is equipped with a Tillotson and after restoring the carburator I am very happy with it. The car is an excellent starter and a great runner and I had no problems caused by the Tillotson in the past 4 years. Even on our 5000 km tour from Germany to Norway last year the carburator worked well all the time. Give it a try!

@@ModelA I had the same problem in the beginning, especially when the engine was warm and I stood at a crossing waiting for the traffic light to turn green. The engine was often short before starving. Mainly two changes helped to improve this behaviour: I adjusted the float about 1/16 to 3/32 of an inch lower than normal. Additionally I added a thermal insulation layer made of 5mm Pertinax (hard paper) between the intake manifold and the carburator. This reduced the temperature on the top section of the carburator where the thin chanel for the idle mixture is located. The gasoline does no longer "cook" in this chanel and a constant flow of gasoline without bubbles is ensured.

People are afraid of the backlash to cut up and hot rod such a clean original 29 model A. A freund's dad growing up was a Detroit hot rodder and had a 29 roadster from the mid 50s. It was already cut up and the car went thru at least 4 different build variations all the way up till the mid 2000s when he finally let it go. Usually next to the model A 29 roadster was an all original 32 5 window which Ray had restored to stock back in the early 1970s. Pretty sure he still has that one.

Good morning Paul, very nice looking roadster. All the shocks are off my 31 Victoria now and I’m going to put tube one on. Had rebuilds on 2 years ago and 3 have leaked since. It’s not a points car, it’s a driver so I’m going with the tube one. When you take the tube shocks off Roadie are you going to sell them? If so put me on your list for them please. Keep up the great work on your shows. You make my weekend and Model T and you help get through too the weekend. God bless, PaulB

Ah, the Bonnie and Clyde perfered car of theft choice! Although his profession was, strictly illegal, he wrote a letter of appreciation to Henry Ford, praising the construction and quality of the cars. Mr. Ford was so proud of the letter, he framed it and put it on a wall. Ironically, Bonnie and Clyde met their demise in a Model A.

I'd totally drive a Model A, or any pre-WW2 car, but they are overpriced. Ditto for post war cars like MG-TC's TD's etc. So to get my spoked wheel and simple vehicle fix on, I stick with 1980's era Honda Rebel. Simple, reliable, easy to work on, fun to drive, cheap parts, and oh so sexy spoked wheels. Really, you guys need to come down on your prices. Like way down. I wouldn't pay more than $2,000 for a very good condition running Model A. I mean, you're literally selling something not that much more advanced than an old farm tractor that was mass produced in the millions. Like the most produced vehicle short of maybe a Honda Super Cub. BTW, you probably don't want shag carpet in a Coupe like that with no windows that rain can soak if you get caught out in a rain storm. It's going to hold water against metal forever esp. where there's something like the seat pressing down on it bolted to the floor or where a screw or rivet is. Someone was trying to hide rust or soemthing with that new carpet.

$395 in 1929 is about $7000 today. You can't buy a good ATV for $7000 but then an ATV is more sophisticated than the Model A. Do the doors pop open driving down the road? It's not a Model A roadster if they don't. Why do people put those aftermarket brake lights on them? Ford offered a right hand light accessory for Model A's. I would get one, convert them to LED ones from Mike's and install it.

I think few people will want these cause they never see them on the road, it was no one buying a car roadies first car or anything like that. those old cars are going to start to depreciate due to the fact that the people who loved and collected these cars are all dead and dying off

Hi Paul Yesterday my 31 Town sedan got stuck in top gear after the end of the shifter came out of its slot! I took the tower off and corrected that, but its still stuck in top! what do I do to free it? HELP!
@ModelA
@ModelA 12 күн бұрын
With the shift tower off, make sure you can slide the tallest looking gear back and forth. if should go all the way back to lock into 2nd gear. If it won't go all the way rearward and engage, try moving the smaller gear forward. Somewhere one of the two is binding. 3rd "gear" is just straight through, no gearing up or down, and when stuck in 3rd, it means the two shafts are pressed together. you need to gently tap (very small hammer) one of the lower gears i to position to pop those shafts apart. lots of small taps. LOTS. plan on it taking several minutes of tapping to move.
@denisdavidson5622
@denisdavidson5622 12 күн бұрын
@@ModelA Thank you Paul, I'll give it a try. both those cogs do slide back and forth ok. I guess I need to drain the oil out to tap the lower cluster, although I'm not quite sure what area of it to tap?
@ModelA
@ModelA 12 күн бұрын
@@denisdavidson5622 Do not tap the lower cluster!! Leave that one alone. If the first and second gear slide back and forth OK, then the link between front and rear shafts can be pulled apart. The cluster gear that slides over the shafts is what locks in third. There's a bearing between the shafts. Maybe the bearing is seized?? Maybe I should do a video?
