When I was a young teenager 50+years ago,circa1972, my father and I went for a flight in that very airplane while we were attending what was then called the EAA Annual Convention and Fly In. Thanks for the great footage and the memory.

Incredibly advanced for its time. More incredible that it's still flying. My wife and I flew in this plane a couple of years ago. Much more comfortable than a car on early roads, no doubt. Pilots look about as casual as in a big C-182. A bit hard to see but the outboard engine gauges are on the strut. Could watch oil pressure and RPM in real time. My flight was pretty much like the video, 80MPH climb, 80MPH cruise, 80MPH approach. The wonder of flight. Awesome!

If you read about how hard it was for a number of folks to get to places like California in the 1930s for work, etc., I can only imagine how many businessmen with enough money would have gladly paid the cost for a ride on this bird. The only other non-treacherous option in many cases were the passenger trains.

Riding the tri motor at Osh is such a pure experience 👌 We tried to get tickets for the Mitchell or B-29 this year but they were sold out. Book in advance!!!

I rode in a Mitchell bomber at a small air show about ten years ago, signing up at the event. Well worth it. We took turns crawling into the nose via a short tunnel. Except for a helicopter, you don't get a view like that in an airplane.

I got to fly that Tri-Motor about 7years ago. It was at my local airport GPHD for an EAA fly in. I flew it form the right seat on Sat and Sun. The pilot was from our local area. He was also an flight instructor. So he put in my logbook.

About 40 years ago one of these planes was at a WACO reunion at the Wynkoop airport in Mt. Vernon Ohio. My Mom let both of my brothers and I take a flight. Flew over town and that was my first experience with seeing things from above. No google maps back then lol So I had no idea what that view looked like

@@N9197U it was $100 per adult and $75 per child. You can sign up in advance and you should. It fills up almost as soon as they open up registration. You can also hope to grab a spot from a no show, but that is dicey at best.

I almost went in one of those, but they wanted $ 75 a ride that was crazy they wanted - 400.00 on the B-17. I know their expenses to operate, but come on back then only the rich can afford to go on a plane the same applies today😅
