I know it’s unpopular but I love wooden trim and molding.

PLEASE use some restraint with the paint brush. Craftsman houses are all about WOOD....natural finishes which highlight the wood grain. Paint has destroyed many a historic craftsman. Strip painted wood rather than add to the damage.

Beautiful home. I would change a thing. I believe if you can't live with the home the way it is, then buy a new modern home. By tearing down walls and removing doors your destroying it's history and it's charm.

Massive amount of space. Tons of potential. CUTE is not the word I would used to describe anything in it.

Just found your channel this morning What a Wonderful house. I love that so much is still untouched. Love the floors and all the doors are pretty cool. The front room upstairs is such an inviting room, so much light. So much space and storage. Congratulations!

Careful with those plaster walls. Consider NOT a messing with them. Many older ones contained asbestos. It is fine if you keep them painted/sealed but asbestos abatement can cost a fortune. I would be of the mindset- if not broke, don’t mess with it. (Check electrical and make sure that some rooms aren’t knob and tube (which might be in the plaster wall rooms). They aren’t safe anymore. Otherwise, beautiful house! Congratulations! I hope you have many wonderful memories in this home!

Very true. Built in 1937 has a very good possibility of having knob and tube electrical, unless the home did not get electricity till a little while afterwards (many rural areas like farms were not electrified until after WWII, late 40s or early 50s) in which case it's likely the old cloth ungrounded romex, which can be just as dangerous as knob and tube. A 1937 home likely contained asbestos in many of the building materials

Our house was built in 1953, and before we moved in, we had them electricity changed because it was knob and tube. This was 2013. Glad it lasted so long for the previous owners.

Use the basement shower for when you come in from working outside, you have the entrance/exit. Many homes built during that time did…kept the dirt to a minimum. I agree that I would use a stack washer dryer on the main floor when reconfiguring…maybe repurpose the downstairs master bedroom and split it into two rooms, designated laundry with just a toilet and sink for guests with laundry and the addition of a pantry for food storage. Change the color of the kitchen and leave the cabinets the color they are…that’s what makes a craftsman. Have fun but keep the integrity of the home.

I would move in tomorrow...love it. 27 years ago we tried to but a Craftsman style home..actually we looked at 2...one was red brick w/ built in front porch and 2nd was a gray stone with open front porch. We were doing a VA loan and neither sellers would accept doing it that way. I loved the brick home ❤congratulations

I've driven past so many of these style homes, and never saw the inside of one. Interesting to notice the limitations people accepted back then. The staircase seems narrow and has no handrail - yet people really lived up there for decades. And no bathroom upstairs... I'd have to keep a "pee bottle" if one of those rooms was my bedroom. Maybe people in the 1930s did too? The central HVAC was added later, so the upstairs might not have had any heat at all originally.
@mypointofview11115 ай бұрын
This house is deceptively large with lots of rooms. I'd suggest you don't have any bedrooms on the ground floor, youve got plenty of room upstairs for those. You could have a room as a library or hobby room. You definitely need an additional toilet and bathroom upstairs so you're not having to traipse downstairs at night when you need to use the loo. You could also consider joiningthe kitchenwith an adjoiningroom to make a kitchen/diner but DO NOT put an island in it. I know its fashionable to have an island in th kitchen. My reason for saying to make a kitchen diner is because of so many windows there's not a lot of wall space in your kitchen, so having adequate storage would be a problem, joining 2 rooms would give you more space for more units, maybe a larder which would help further down the line. I am very impressed with the quality of the floors, they look like you could do ballroom dancing on them in each room. I wish you every success in renovating this lovely house and look forward to seeing the progress in future videos

Tall ceilings are NOT great. In the winter you will have cold feet and a hot head. Tall ceiling makes it harder to keep your house warm in the winter thus costing a crap load in heating bills.

some older homes there was a workers bathroom in the basement for workers on the property that you wouldn't usually let into your upstairs bathroom. Wonder if that mystery closet was originally a laundry chute or dumbwaiter

@@maggiewheatley6171 we are about 30 minutes west of Columbus. Our dining room doors and waiter door are some of the coolest features of the house. Our home was built in the 20’s. Unfortunately and randomly, the lady who had the home built was murdered by the contractor! They were having an affair and she was killed in the front room. Super freaky, but my grandmother and her sister were able to buy this home in 1933 because of that. They were 16 and 23 respectfully. Anyways, if you have anymore information about why our doors are identical, and now that I looked again, the original windows, I would be greatly appreciative. Also, all of the doors have glass handles which I remember getting yelled at for breaking when I was a kid (1980’s).
