My husband and I were lucky to have owned a confirmed Sears Kit House when we lived in Elgin, IL. It was the Columbine model and was one of about 200 Sears homes in that city. I loved that house and if I could have moved it with us, I would have.

This home has a stunning entryway. I think it's an amazing example of the beauty of the Craftsman period. Many Craftsman homes will use stained oak cabinetry in the kitchen, so the white was an interesting choice. I appreciate the care and time the owners took in this home.

Laine, I got my tiger oak sideboard at a yard sale for $35 in 1995. It "had good bones" but I had to completely refinish every square inch. It just glows now. Then came the tiger oak bureau free on the side of the road...painted pink, black and white. It became our daughter's in her nursery...How is it possible that so many people don't love it???? In my dreams I have a Craftsman Tiger Oak Library....sigh.....it's probably just as well, as nobody would ever see me again! LOVE, LOVE your tours and your amazing work. Thank you!

What a gorgeous house!! That house is perfect for my family but no way could we leave Louisiana. So I can only dream!!! My parents live in Illinois and they restored a 1908 Victoria home. My parents put their the last 30 years into that house. My dad past away in 2018 and my mom, who is handicap, is try to keep the house up by herself with the help of my brother and sister. If you are interest in seeing a picture of the house let me know. Please keep making more videos of restored houses! I just love the way you narrate each video!

Of course, if it were in Seattle, I couldn't touch it...it would be well over $1,000,00...more like $2,000,000 depending on what part of the city it was in. STUNNING! (I've got to find a new adjective, Laine), but what else can I say? In the family parlor and porch, were those... ASH TRAYS(?!) on the tables? Now there's an antique if I ever saw one. Hahahahaha............ At $335k, if we fed the dog and cat bagged, dry food for the rest of their lives and took shared showers to conserve water & heating electricity while limiting dining out to once a month... maybe we could afford this house. WOW! What a treasure. I can't wait to see your final product down in Monticello. OH, one complaint. On the liquor table in the kitchen, I didn't see the accouterments to make my drink of choice - a Bombay Sapphire extra dry/extra dirty martini, shaken for forty-seconds and served in a frozen glass with three olives. Keep it up, girl... you're killing me!! Carl

Many aspects of this home remind me of my parent’s home in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. I’d love to speak with someone regarding restoration, but I don’t know where to begin. It actually has some historic significance since the house was the original property of famed Victorian era explorer, Kate Marsden during here time living in Philadelphia.

I got tiger oak. Oak is oak. Tiger oak is just oak cut a certain way. Our local lumber yard referred us to a restoration carpentry artist that does woodwork for historic homes. His pieces fit in perfectly with the originals, which was so nice since squatters had ruined so many of the original features.

Ok I'm on the uneducated side of all the styles there are so forgive my question. What elements make up an Arts and Crafts home? And what is tiger oak? I'm guessing that species of oak tree is extinct now. I'm loving all the bishops board in that house though. And the staircase spindles are gorgeous. They're gonna have to have one serious garage sale unless they don't mind moving all that stuff... moving drives me crazy! And Kevin, please be careful going down basement stairs while holding that camera! I am still recovering from breaking my leg coming down stairs, happened June 10th, and have at least 4 more weeks! Thanks guys for the house tours, I love them.

Arts and crafts homes are part of an early 20th century movement to reject factory made products and return to hand made craftsmanship, look up William Morris, Gustav Stickley, and Frank Lloyd wright. Tiger oak is not a type of oak tree. It refers to the way it’s milled so that the grain stands out looking like tiger stripes.

@@catofthecastle1681 I admit is don't know the other two but when we lived in Racine, WI we looked at a house for sale that was Frank Lloyd Wright inspired and it was beautiful. Right when you walked in there was a water fountain and behind that was the kitchen. Lots of wood in it I was in heaven. We didn't buy it though as it had no basement. He also has a lot of his architecture at the Johnson & Johnson plant there. And thank you for clarifying the tiger oak. So I wonder why they don't make it anymore.
