These songs where written decades before I was born, but what great stuff. Too bad young people don't listen to this era of music.

I used to have some tapes of Ted Weems that I'd made from radio back in the 80's but this collection is superb. The Weems Band reminds me of the Harry Roy English group. Greetings from Australia. Does anyone love to watch Shaye Kohn and Tuba Skinny who keep the 'spirit alive'. My 6 year old grand son loves Hot Jazz & the Nicholas Bros

Ted Weems remains one of my most favorite bands of the 1920s and 1930s; there’s so much more of a great musical legacy Ted left other than his popularization of Perry Como.

The name was new to me, I`m ashamed to say. The arrangements are lovely - do you know if he did his own or did he have a "resident"/regular one? Just think - this was the "pop" music of the day! But look at what we are left with today (!!!) - with very few exceptions.

From "Out of the Night" comes Prozoot with a program of Ted Weems' favorites in sparkling monaural fidelity. I'm settled in with an adult beverage and ready to hear this great orchestra in new dimensions of old sound. Thanks as ever old man! New dimension number one might be Country Washburne's tuba. Besides Min Leibrook in his Eddy Duchin days, was there ever another purveyor of grunt iron with such a preternaturally light touch and sure rhythm? He barely seems to attack the note yet he is always right on top of it - and on tuba that means feeling the beat _just_ an eenchy bit ahead, and feeling _just_ when to decay the note so it keeps its rhythmic intensity. Number two is Harry Turner on trombone. He may not have had lots of hot solos, what with Dudley Fosdick on mellophone beside him. But the engineering makes clear when Harry's playing and when Dud is, and turns out Harry was a more than capable player, not the chair filler you might have thought. He gets ballad spots, obbligati and a few hot breaks, and he's the low brass section along with Country when required. Number three, an unheard item in the Weems discography. _Don't Be Mad At Me_ (36:49), a brisk ballad by Walter Donaldson, was recorded Oct. 5, 1931, with a not quite danceable intro. (Is it 2 bars in five, or two-three-two-three?) Maybe that's why RCA never issued it. That or Parker Gibbs' audible breathing in between phrases.

What a joy to have this presentation - what a perfect band - all wonderful musicians - and what wonderful quality! It shows how good these recordings were at source - when heard before being damaged by the heavy pick-ups with steel needles in use back then. These records must have been in prestine condition when the transfers were made. The engineers certainly knew their stuff back in those days - perfect balancing! I had to put this in as I feel that this style of music is so neglected. Angel Radio, situated on the Isle of Wight DOES play quite a lot of dance band music, I`m pleased to say. However, being a local station, the power is restricted and soon fades with any distance - and sometimes by a French station.

I think I can see why 'Don't Be Mad At Me' never made it to press - at times, it stretches a little too far outside Gibbs' normal vocal range. Probably should have given it to Wes Vaughan instead.
