Enjoyed this one for sure.... I am in the early stages of transforming a 31 Sport Coupe to a 5W.....got lucky and found a complete chopped off roof....will integrate it to the SC quarters.... Built my own wood kit from Cyprus. I've got to remember to reach out to you on it. Got a 8ba that I've yet to touch. 46 ford banjo open drive rear. 35 ford dash, Will be a period build minus the T5.... they don't need to know.

Sounds like it will be an awesome hot rod. 👍

The 2.3 motor can be made to squirt out almost 200 HP with a completely stock bottom end with a circle track cam and a intake and carburetor, say dual 40 mm delortos, or four smoothbore mikunis, had amazing results running pony stock circle track racing, a turbo also yields astounding outputs with these engines, remember the T bird super coupes?
@QuickSpeedShop Жыл бұрын
I know that the Turbo Coupes made almost 250 hp. I'm not going to spend money to build a hot 2.3L. I'd build a hemi or early OHV V8 for the car first.
@davebaker9128 Жыл бұрын
@@QuickSpeedShop yeah, I get you, but it would seriously freak people out, smoking a small block with a 2.3, imagine
@robertwood53953 жыл бұрын
I have admired this car and your skills since you built it on the HAMB thread. Glad you are still enjoying it. Ever consider changing the front brakes to self energizing (F250 works/with the drums I think)? Or brush painting it?
@QuickSpeedShop3 жыл бұрын
It stops good with the '39 brakes. I can tell when the pedal starts to get more travel that they need to be adjusted. Not going to paint it because I like the patina. I used to be more active on the HAMB, but just don't have the time to do threads anymore.

Thanks for your reply Josh. Love the car, was just curious because you are always thinking! Not that you need more projects, LOL.

I want a model A pickup set up just like that
@76kz400 Жыл бұрын
Very cool. Looking good and it’s awesome that you’ve enjoyed it that long. Roughly what kind of HP is that 2.3 good for? I’ve got a pretty traditional A with a Flathead and I’m assuming it’s got roughly 100 horse. It’s not fast or even quick but I love driving it around’. I have hood sides but don’t want to put them on because I love shooting off the stock flatly! I’ve got an Offy two pot intake a couple of extra carbs I’m going to install over the winter.
@QuickSpeedShop Жыл бұрын
It's probably around 100. I can go 65 mph, but faster than that there is a lot of wind resistance. It really moves out at lower speeds, comparable to an A-V8 I would guess
@kodak_jack3 жыл бұрын
You have flat heads attached to generators that are never going to be used for that purpose. Can you use one of those?
@QuickSpeedShop3 жыл бұрын
The problem with those engines is that they are designed to run at 1800 rpm. The cam is really small and would have to be changed and if I'm doing all that I might as well rebuild the whole thing then I'm $5000 deep.
@jeromebreeding3302 Жыл бұрын
Little dissapointed not to see a Model B Ford banger under the hood, but would have cost as much as a Flat-head V-8.. The GM 186ci. marine four found it's way in many a early Ford. It shared many parts with the small -block.
@QuickSpeedShop Жыл бұрын
With this engine/trans combo I can run 65 mph and get 23 mpg. Couldn't do that with a banger. At least it's still all Ford.
@jeromebreeding3302 Жыл бұрын
@@QuickSpeedShop The GM four could probably match that, with the added displacement, a little more grunt, still you can't argue against the tried and true 2.3 litre Ford.
@lilorbielilorbie24963 жыл бұрын
When I got my 30 Ford Model A Fordor. I really wanted a 2.3 Ford engine but in every junkyard I went to nobody had any so I settled for what my cousin says is a 302 Ford out of a 1968 Shelby.
@QuickSpeedShop3 жыл бұрын
I'd say you got the much better deal with the 302
@lilorbielilorbie24963 жыл бұрын
@@QuickSpeedShop Yeah I think that I did. I got the 302 and a c-6 trans. with a bolt pattern for the sbf. a B&M shifter for it and I only had to give the guy $200.00 for it .Better to be lucky than good.

How did you balance the wide 5s? I'm working on a 36 sedan and haven't figured that out yet
@QuickSpeedShop3 жыл бұрын
I didn't balance them I just run them as is. The only way I would think to do it with modern machines would be to buy one of the wide 5 to reg bolt pattern adapters from Speedway, bolt it in the wheel, and then use the smaller hub hole in the adapter to locate the wheel on the balancer.

You do know that the term A,R means nothing to the model A ford years.
@QuickSpeedShop9 ай бұрын
AR refers to the early '28 Model A's with the red steering wheel and left hand parking brake. It's not an official Ford term, but is widely accepted to use to describe those very early cars. Similar to the '97 Ford F250 being referred to as OBS or old body style as Ford had two different versions of the F250 in 1997. Over the years, OBS became an acceptable term for any '92-'97 F series truck. It's mostly correct vernacular, just as AR is mostly correct. This is also not a video on correct AACA judging criteria so give me a break.
