With Dickel set to reveal a major announcement at the very end of this video, old Buzz shows off his new cheap component tester, and then attempts to wind a coil, to replace his burnt out antenna primary coil..... Later, the old Buzzmeister experiments to get his favorite talk radio stations to receive well in this very old cheap TRF radio.....

Very magnanimous of Dickel to defer his votes to the Donald. This was certainly an interesting video. That light portion on the radio front looked very red here on my end. Great job on the coil Buzz, this video got me going on my tester, I started to measure and drill out the plastic case. I have started a video on it but it gets dark so very early I have to finish it tomorrow, videos coming soon. Dickel did an honorable thing for Trump...yes go TRUMP!

very nice buzz, the front of that radio cabinet looks really good. rewinding that coil and adding that capacitor helped in sensitivity and added volume to the important stations you want to listen to. I'm a conservative like you and if it meant moving to every state Trump was tied with Shrillary in just to add one more vote for the Trumpster to break the tie on election day, I'd do it.

Nice work Buzz.... I wonder if having that coil connected to the chassis ( grounded ) would have made a difference in your testing. Hay Buzz I like your ambition. In a coupling transformer the coupling is based on several things. Some things to consider are the inductance and resistance (DC) of each coil in the transformer. These affect the circuits connected to the transformer more so than the coupling between the coils. Also that picture of the damaged transformer tells me it probably took a lighting hit, do not judge the number of turns in the coil from the size of what you see. It is the relation of turns (Loops) in the two coils and the magnetic coupling between the two coils, that sets, above all other internals of the transformer, the coupling action of the transformer. Turns diameter is not as important as turns count. Turns diameter affects internal coil resistance more. I expect that the original input coil wire insulation exploded makes most of the size of that coil. I like your new component tester. Could I get more information?

all that extra uH acts as a loading coil for short antennas on the BCB (My guess). But you need to adjust the trimmer caps on the tuning capacitor! Peak both up while listening to a weak station in the middle of the dial.

I know inductance depends on the diameter of the coil, not just the number of turns, and also whether it has an iron, air or ferrite core. Where did you get that tester? I know Old64Goat got one too. I think I need one!

If you know of someone in the hvac repair business, ask them to save the bad 24v contactors for you. Easy to disassemble and lots of good coil wire. I have one of those testers, they are neat.

Buzz1151 I noticed that also.. but it's nice to get a reading. other trying to read the little bitty faded color bands on the resistor, I tried using this in circuit but it picks up all the other items. over all a little battery drain not bad. it may be from the lighted panel that causes the drain
