Dad owned one shortly after the end of WWII. He drove himself, Mum, Granny, Grandad, my bother (circa 8) and me (circa 6) all over England. The confidence of youth!

Scary or what, searched for a 'Ford model Y' to find yours. Back the late 1940s my grandad had just such a car, his registration BRK 117 can't get much closer than that. Yours looks & sounds a treat, thanks for sharing. atvb t ..

My first car was a 1936 Y type 8 that had a duff 6 volt battery but having no money resorted to heavty swinging ,sometimes link two 6volt batteries on a cold day to make 12 volts spin it.Remember no water pump meant no heater too and those lovely vacuum wipers that failed when going uphill on full throttle.Oh as a young lad I stripped and renewed the centre gearbox bush and replaced worn sincro rings to stop the usual jumping out of second gear.This seemed to be a fault with most 3speed gearboxes until the seventies!Oh yes dont forget weak rear half shafts that would break allowing a rear wheel and hub to leave you behind!

Not to mention the wicked non-existant brakes. Even with weekly adjustment for balance you always used the ten second rule not the 3 second rule. The next Ford 10 had a vacuum tank for the wipers, they were easy to fit. The transverse springs meant learning early how to control drifting safely at low speed. But they were very light and easy on petrol.

I find its much easier with the handle. I give it a few turns slowly then give it a couple of hard turns an she fires rite up. When i bought her she had been with the same family since new! Even has the original key

Were they all so nicely upholstered (roof and red sides) or is this a luxury model?

Is this the one that used to appear at Chelford Steam Fair ,Cheshire,every year in the nineties? That one was superb and unrestored as far as I can recollect. Just about as near to new as could be,brilliant example.

Very nice!!! I hope to get mine running! I just purchased a 1935 Ford Model Y that needs restoration. I live in the US and I guess there are not many here. I think I'm going to have a hard time getting parts in the US for it.

I'm surprised they retained the factory front suspension torsion bars when coilovers were used in the rear.

Fantastic! My grandmother used to have a Model Y (reg. CTO 517). I have a 1931 Riley Saloon, and it always reminds her of the Ford. Also, I've been wondering for a while whether these are sychro gearboxes or not?
@mcammack869 жыл бұрын
The top 2 gears are syncro but first needs the double de-clutch
