Nicely done,, great looking results. From the items I can see in the background, looks like you have a super collection.

Great acquisition!!! So nice that you could fix the whole thing. Chassis and cabinet came out perfect after your restoration. I love to watch your videos. I am electronic technician who loves old electronic tubes and tvs and radios. A big hug.

Love the steps done in the restoration. 1Megohm volume pot can be replaced as there are offerings on a popular selling site on the web. I feel your pain there on what to do. Nice cabinet work! Might want to add Bluetooth to it in the future using the SW part of the BC/SW switch . Thanks for sharing!

Great looking radio. Bet you fell in love at first sight. And very tasteful restoration. Maybe slap a Bluetooth sensor in on the SW switch?

Jack, I forgot to mention in my earlier comment that you did a great job on this. There is a resistor buried inside the eye tube socket that may have gone up in value over 80+ years. Replacing that resistor, if you haven’t already done so, might increase the eye closure sensitivity while tuning in a station. Looking forward to the Comet!

Another good eye trick is to sub in a 6E5 in place of the 6U5. If the resistor has drifted it might still be okay for a tube with a faster trigger point like a 6E5 (besides, 6E5s are more plentiful and cheaper NOS). If its still not moving enough you can hide a resistor in the pins of the 6E5 between the base & the top of the socket in parallel to the drifted resistor.

1M pots with long shafts are avail on radio-daze. They sell the power switch as a separate item for a buck or two and then you take apart the back of the new-pot and slap the switch on the back of it. They're one of the last sources of long shaft pots so I try to always have 3 of every value on-hold in my parts stash. Reorder replacements once a year or two.

German nationals or naturalized citizens living in the US at the start of WWII were required to disable shortwave on their home radios during wartime.

I enjoyed your video. Thanks! Where in PA did you find this radio? You say about two hours from Pgh in the middle of nowhere. That’s about where I am… 🤔

Thanks! I actually found it at Blairsville Fleatique in Indiana County, PA

Oh yeah, I’ve been to that place. I hesitate to call it depressing, but that’s the first word that comes to mind. It’s not super close to where I live but I’ve been there a few times. Their summer outdoor flea markets have good stuff on occasion. I have a nice late 1930s Zenith console I hope to get around to restoring someday. It has a great Art Deco vibe. Your videos are inspiring. Keep it up!
