Cutting out and shaping the sail panels using the planisher, shrinker and power hammer to get a nice flowing look down the back end of the car.

The three prong straight line sheet metal cutter was invented after World War 2 in LA by a guy named Al Swink. At the same time he invented the car wash and was featured in a full article in Life Magazine. It used surplus supercharger blowers from B-17’s to dry the cars. He went on to become a Mayor of Santa Monica, followed by his wife in the same position. In later years he funded the creation of a Ferrari 308 GTB tube frame and fiberglass SCCA GT2 race car that spent ten years racing in the southwest region under the Cortez Rase Team livery. The engine and transmission work was done by the legendary Bob Wallace also of Phoenix at that time. Through that experience he was partially responsible for bringing the Formula 1 Grand Prix to Phoenix. Just a tidbit about another amazing man who was a part of the “Greatest Generation”.

Hi, can you ask Mike if he can walk around the shop and introduce each car and what work is getting done or what work he has already done on each car and what he likes and dislikes about each project and what he would do if the car was his personally please. It would be like an introduction, more or less. I like his laid back attitude.

Mike your skills at shaping flat sheet metal into compound shapes are amazing and your vision of what shape you are seeking to create is proof of your skill. I also enjoy your humor which is an important part of all your videos. Don't stop showing your work

Mike, I'm still droolin on that 37 Packard... Now I'm lookin at reruns of it. The attention to detail, the bullet proof 4 link, those amazing sail panels, the door surround reinforcing, the split rear window and the best part, the bearded headlights.... I would go into heavy debt for that car... Your art is amazing.

I’ve got to believe that in the late 50’s and early 60’s when Mr. Ferrari had his “craftsmen” beating out legendary cars that their skills were no greater than what we are seeing here. In fact, those cars have proven to be astonishingly irregular from side to side, something that the west side homies simply would never accept.
