Thank you for posting this video. Last year a lady gifted me with her family's 1936 Royal De Luxe portable typewriter. Thanks to your video, now I know how to set the margins. The tabulator key's linkage on my typewriter is functioning, at least as far as I can see its linkage is moving under the machine. The remainder of the linkage at the rear of the machine is hidden under the carriage assembly, so I will have to remove the carriage assembly in order to fix the tabulator mechanism.

Beautiful typewriter. I just got a 1938 Royal Quiet. From what I gather about these machines, the Quiet and the De Luxe from the same time period are pretty much both the same!

Just picked one of these up for $20 at local antique shop. In pretty good condition, too, just needs a new ribbon, cleaned, and a few minor adjustments.

I have this same machine from 1937 and it is my favorite manual typer! The glass topped keys are so delightful and so easy to tap the keys. I find the Silent Super and 1958 Royal Quiet Deluxe much harder to type on although they are delightful in their own way;)

Thank you for the excellent tour of this Royal DeLuxe. I just received this exact one that a friend came upon at a garage sale. He was given it for free. I am so excited as I will use it in my illustrated journal projects. It even came in it’s array case with keys. It is in beautiful hope. I ordered new ribbons.

Great Review, and what a beautiful machine you own! I just found a model quite like this today at an antique store. It was in decent working condition, just needed some fixing. Currently I have it on a payment plan, can't wait until it's mine! 🥰

@@AlwaysAnalog thank you! I was so anxious and decided to bring it home today. From what I gathered I have a 1935 model that has a dark reddish-purple finish. Aside from a couple fixes needed, I love it! I'm curious though, what is the little lever on the roller near the left handle? It's to the upper right of the spacing switch.
@yourlocalexecutive
@yourlocalexecutive 2 жыл бұрын
@@zinzolin14 You mean the spacing handle? That is for when you're at the end of a line. It's the same as pressing "Enter" on the keyboard to go to the next line.
@someonespadre
@someonespadre Жыл бұрын
@@zinzolin14 the lever on the left side in the back releases the ratchet without changing the ratchet position. When re-engaged it goes back to the previous ratchet position. This is so you can type on a ruled line without disturbing the ratchet position. If you want to adjust the ratchet position there is a button in the center of the left knob, press and turn knob to position desired. There is also a lever which selects single or double line spacing.

Hi Kevin you are so knowledgeable about all the things you’ve collected. I was wondering what was the first thing you started collecting and why?
@AlwaysAnalog
@AlwaysAnalog 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bonnie! Thanks so much! I really have to think about the first thing that I collected, but I would say that when I was a kid I had a collection of Matchbox cars. That was probably my earliest collection of anything. I grew up in Detroit and my dad worked in the auto industry, so I was always fascinated by cars and auto history. I should have stuck with the Matchbox cars instead of all this big heavy stuff!!

Picked up the same typewriter yesterday, also 1938, non-op condition (escapement not tripping). I somehow accidentally fixed it when moving the carriage looking for the S/N. Maybe I released a lock? Seller thought it would never type again, kids these days, it’s not an iPhone. Only thing it seems to need is a ribbon. It definitely has a better typing feel than my Corona Standard (1937). Monroe Model K…1922 House…1935 Monroe Model LA5…1930s, maybe early 1940s. L.C. Smith & Corona shiny black Corona Standard…1937 Royal De Luxe…1938 with the same black craquelure paint. Mine is missing the touch control lever.

@@AlwaysAnalog I had a problem where the vibrator wasn’t rising, red not a problem, only black. Finally figured out with the lever all the way right in certain circumstances it thinks it’s in stencil mode. An adjustment issue. My temporary fix, stick a little shim in there to hold the lever a bit left, problem went away.

Hey Kevin! I recently found a same Royal deluxe type writer. It is my granny's typewriter. It was kept in attic for don't know how many decades. I took it to a few type writer mech's but none agreed to restore it. Now I have decided to restore it by myself, atleast repaint and polish. So can you please help me with restoring this typewriter. I want to know how to repaint it? Do I have to remove the outside panel? If YES then how do I remove it? Do have have to remove the platren also to remove the side panels? It has glass keys and i don't have the right tool to remove them. Can you please help me with changing the Key's inside paper ? . Thanks for any input.
@AlwaysAnalog
@AlwaysAnalog 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Aamir! It's so nice that you have your granny's typewriter - that is very nice to have! DO NOT take the glass keys off. The metal part or body of the typewriter is attached to the frame of the typewriter with a number of screws. This is a very complicated process - you may want to keep looking for a professional who will do the job. It is not something I have ever done, and as much as I have worked on typewriters I don't think I would attempt it myself. Yes, you would have to remove the entire platen and carriage assembly, which can be complicated. I'm sorry I can't give you more information on what to do - it's not something I have done myself. Thanks for watching and good luck with your typewriter!

Kevin number one thing the thing that you are turning the typewriter on is exactly what my grandmother used to frost her cakes she keep a circular piece of cardboard that was the right size she put that on top take a piece of aluminum foil and make it larger turn that upside down and tape it to the bottom of that and then she could take the whole thing and it would still be clean. Sorry about the run on sentence my voice typing. Better Built the most new cars and much nicer looking. Now figure how old this is and see if any computer is running in this number of years. Stay safe my friend keep making great videos we send our best from Paris Illinois

Typewritwers? Nicely reviewed. Well, I've never used one since I was a kid, (I loved to type on them). Now I have a small collection of old and new scientific calculators. (I require them in my profession). Since they are digital, you may not be interested! You could try slide rules. I would say I am both analog and digital.
