In the last episode on the Ford Forgotten Hot Rod Matt was able to accomplish a huge milestone, and got the new floors installed! The rocker panels were also in very bad shape, and have to be replaced. MACs has 1937-40 rockers that will save us some time and get this project back on the road. Matt also had to rebuild a mounting foot from the B-pillar to the rocker that was rotted away. Once the rockers were trimmed to fit, Matt punched holes for plug welds. After a bunch of welding the front floors are solid and the cross bracing was able to be removed. The Forgotten Hot Rod is very close to taking its first test drive around the yard, and not far off from street driving!

Easy peasy work, just time burning bandit is all. Looks like your dad maybe working in there with you. Thinking you should of done a two door delete on the 41 mercury as that is a great body and two door deletes are not hard, just a time burner. Dogs helping adds to the shows character. I hope your brother doesn't see the big window. Here's that, would test your skills and they really are cool two doors and parts are out there since it has a lot of the floor pan still there tieing the front and back together. Someday people will bring their projects to you as your name gains fame. Enlarge the shop with a dry storage on the side with a snow apron on the front to help keep out cold when moving projects to the side and give some waking room in there. That solid core vice is sweet, might weld up the digits that add character now so you could use it as a anvil for shaping body pieces. You have some of the nicest old school tools I have seen in years. I'm 73, not dead. I used stuff like that when I built a 49 mercury two door drop top with a 331 hemi engine project I did in the sixties that won several car shows as it was perfect when it rolled out in eight months from looking like what your working on to a car you could park on a show room. I made a ton of money I needed to upgrade my shop or I would of kept it. I put flatheads in some fifty chevy pickups and they were sweethearts with the duel exhaust and three on tree and four speed rigs. I did probably fifteen or more as you lose count over the years. Part of the fun of getting old is looking back and remembering the bad to the bone cars and trucks. I got fast at fixing them when you do them like assembly lines as I had three of them in my shop at the same time. I had too big a building for years and finally built inside so I did not have to heat north america. I made it though where you could drive from side to side as I went down one third then blocked on my store rooms in the back on the part I worked in.... 80 X 200 building looked good till the heat bill came in and the heat went off and we tarped things in the building and then we were wet all the time which was worse/LOL Good video Matt

That really makes it solid very nice indeed. You did a great job installing welding and fabricating your parts I really like how you punched holes for spot welds and made your door jamb part. whats the small gap behind the door between the floor and the quarter panel at the bottom? Looks like it wants the floor to be pushed up a little more to meet the quarter panel.

Yep it's getting harder to find clean examples these days! We just want to show what can be built with a budget and a little work!

The engine really rocks back and forth a lot. How are the engine mounts?
@IronTrapGarage

It was because the body wasn't mounted... buggy style suspension with no weight in it.

My older Brothers Hot Rod a 47 Ford Coupe was flat black and had shaved hood and trunk this would have been about 1959..1961 there about's and had some cool pin striping on it I remember going out in it with his buddy both these guys had sun tans and slicked back duck tails hair and we went to the local drive in hamburger joint .....the car also had baby moons and dual exhausts and the dash was striped also ...car was loud really rapped . I think they sanded the black paint so it was flat black seem to remember something like that . Had lake pipes at one point also just thought about it they removed the chrome on each side of the car and later on the door handles on the outsides ,I think he used the vent windows to get in but all of the work was done by my brother or his friends one had a Model A hot rod ...or T ?

What do you use for shocks? Are they modern shocks on those? Do you use sway bars on that style of cars?

Put a filter in the top hose or you will block the radiator up quick.

Zip discs and dust. That dust is nasty, try wearing a dust mask for a day while grinding and welding, Once you see what the filter looks like you will use the masks much more often. Yes they are a pain in the butt - but the amount of dirt you will find in the filters beats getting it down into your lungs. I used to get laughed at when I started masking up 45 years ago, now when i am working on a site or in a shop most of the folks do not think twice about the masks and are wearing them as well. It would be nice to know you might be around in 40 years and still doing this. A nice 32 with those Ardun heads might be finished by then:)
