The Lincoln Zephyr is an art-deco rolling piece of art!! My favorite late 30's coupe is a '37-'42 Willys coupe, but the Zephyr is a close 2nd! Very similar body lines between the two actually. I'm building a '40 Willys coupe as a gasser, but I'd love to also have a Zephyr as a cruiser car! Absolutely gorgeous 😍

Very nice story and interview! Such a beautiful car. Ed Smith a great engine builder, nice to have experienced guy working on it. I am just getting to learn about him a bit. A good suggestion as well to have those who will inherit this vehicles to know how to drive and appreciate them.

There's never been a more beautiful car than a Lincoln Zephyr. I dropped a Zephyr V-12 into my '51 Ford along with the trans and rearend. The gears were of higher quality metal than the Fords of the same era.

Thanks for your comment, Tom. I didn’t know that, but it’s not surprising - the Zephyr was top drawer! Great to have you along!

I had one stored in my garage for a friend who had bought it in Argentina. It was a clean original car except that someone along the line had exchanged the original engine for a 60 Cadillac motor. From memory it had another small window in the rear. He said it was an Opera Coupé. Does that sound right?

I have read that the reason Henry Ford hated 6 cylinder motors was because that his Model K, which was a huge expensive 6 cylinder car, was such a flop in sales. Henry never wanted to build luxury cars in his early years and the Model K was sort of foisted on him by the board of directors that were in charge at that time. That explains 1 theory of why he disliked 6 cylinders.

For a guy whose automotive narcissism criticized others "Monkeying around with design," he should have left the engine alone, the air filter itself looks like a nose ring on a grandmother, let alone the paint looks like it was done with a roller. These cars used nitrocellulose lacquer and were hand-rubbed from the factory sad to see on such a rare car.
