What a great find. The best money I've spent on my old tractors with a distributor is converting them to electronic ignition. I'm finding that the points today are not worth a crap.

These tractors with their terrible seats is what caused my back problems today.

back in the day I would tune up my car with points, plugs and condenser. then use a timing light to check the running timing . do they have timing marks on the main shaft of the tractors? the timing light would be on cylinder 1 with the vacuum advance plugged. It brings back memories of my youth, fixing, rebuilding and keeping my car running to be able to go to where I need to be, thanks for bringing back memories from my past.

82 years old and it starts with a simple tune up. I remember these tractors as the big tractor around many farms, probably the tractor that is responsible for more farms than any other throughout history in America.

That rear end oil looked just like what I drained out of my B Deere... If you could find a set of Soucy tracks you would be the envy of all the neighbors. They are the cats meow of aftermarket tracks. Just very very expensive even used. They can be made to fit most anything. Little more of this and that and I think you will have a good tractor.

Points set at .020. Don't waste your money on A&I ignition parts. I get good quality from O'Reillys. The majority of the water in the rear end seeps in around the platform bolts. I drain mine every fall to keep the bull gears from freezing in ice. Doc

Seems like that could be remedied by removing the bolts and putting pipe dope on them.

Points gap for M is .013 SM .020 as per Yesterdays Tractors. Change the points gap and the hesitation should be better also you will need to have a DYNO DAY for all the untested tractors that should make for a good video.

@@dirtgrainsteel the serial numbers started over with the super Ms. They started over with the #501 .that would make it a 52 . The 53s and 54s had the battery under the seat.
