Today on what it’s like the year is 1940 in this Dodge D4 luxury liner could be had to local Dodge dealership.
Here on what it’s like, we cover cars off the beaten path and strive to cover all of the cars that never got covered especially between the years 1930 through 1964. And outside of those parameters but that’s where most of the meat and potatoes lie.
Enjoy this episode
If you’re in the market for a 1940 Dodge D14 convertible, you’re in luck because this one is currently for sale like classic auto Mall Morgantown, Pennsylvania if for whatever reason a 1940 Dodge isn’t your thing you’re also in luck because they have over 1000 cars for sale when recording this video anybody can go and look at their inventory in person or online if you’d like to check out their online inventory as well as see more pictures of this car. I don't know if anyone else spotted this error at 9:13 but there seems to be a bolt missing from teh plate on the floor holding the steering column in. This was my late Dad's car when he was dating my late Mum in the 1940s. It's not a total restoration - yet but still very impressive from the outside and probably VERY reliable, a lovely car all round. MANY thanks for sharing (and for the memories) and take care.

It works out better for me if I can release them later in the evening and it seems like more people watch in the evening, so going to come up with a better time I just haven’t figured out what works the best yet plus to be 100% fair and honest I just finished this episode I gotten back into that habit of just posting episodes as I get them done =)

As always, great video! You posted a pic of a 39 Ford instead of the 40, but it's close enough. Interesting that the 40 Dodge and Ford look quite a bit more modern than the 40 Chevy. I'm surprised that Harley Earl allowed that to happen. Fun Fact: those pre-war cars often used spring steel to mount their front bumpers. If you hit something at low speed, the spring steel would absorb the impact.... but then they would try to push the car backward. Definitely NOT a 'crumple zone' car! WYR: 40 (or 39) Ford/ 40 Willys.

Hi Jay!: This Dodge is a stunner! The 1940 designs from Chrysler Corp. are much better than the 1939! Can you imagine, how proud the original owner was to drive this beauty home! Yes, it's not a speed demon, but I bet they were pretty reliable! The DeSoto and Plymouth of this year were also VERY good looking cars. WYR's: While I am a big fan of the 1940 Ford design wise, I ALSO like the Dodge, so I am going to pick it for the first one. #2 Going with the Stude on this one, another NICE design! The Willys is a close second, though! One thing I love about your channel, is you show how these cars are STYLED. Pretty much every part of the car is styled! Even the rear splash apron! really like the dash layout as well! Too bad the dash components have not aged very well! Just have to love the starter pedal on the floor!

They were probably selling those cars in other countries as 40 models. They were usually a year or two behind the US in body style. I've seen pictures of a 1940 Plymouth in Australia that looked like a 40 Plymouth in front, but a 39 Dodge or DeSoto in the rear. Very weird !

When I was very young, there was someone in my neighborhood with a 1937 Dodge 4 door with rear suicide doors. That car was not in good shape with its faded green paint That style of Dodge was made from '36 to '38, and the placement of the headlights was different than that of the '39 & '40 Dodge. My preferred cars shown here would be the 1940 Dodge & Studebaker.

Another nicely done video. I like the styling of the '39 better than the '40. It looks sleeker to me. This strikes me as a rather plain car but this is a super nice example. I would choose the 1940 Chevrolet and the 1940 Willys. I'm still interested in seeing you do a video on the 1917 Metz Model 25 Touring at Classic Auto Mall if you think it's worth your time.

I like the 39 styling better for the reasons that you mentioned rectangular headlights are very interesting as well.

Wow! I just mentioned how nice it would be if you did a feature on a 1940 or 1941 Dodge Luxury Liner not more than a week ago and here it is being presented. How nice! Next up, maybe a 1939 -1940 Plymouth Road King sometime in the future. Anyways, for WYR although all cars shown are great, for the first choice I would take the Dodge Luxury Liner, and for the second choice it would have to be that neat looking Willys De Luxe Coupe. Look forward to more videos from that era in the near future Jay!

@seed_drill7135
@seed_drill7135 6 ай бұрын
Heck, the world was just beginning to transition from black and white in 1940. Seriously, though, red was available, but was more susceptible to fade than some other colors, which is why truck fenders are still black, while the cabs look terrible on old trucks from this era.
@kirbywaite1586
@kirbywaite1586 6 ай бұрын
@seed_drill7135 In the movies, yes of course (1936). Cars could be had in many colors for decades prior, but the red offered in 1941 wouldn't have been that one. That's what they used to call " auction" red. Still, it's a beautiful Dodge.

WYR I'll take the Ford DeLuxe and the Willys. This Dodge has some good styling points but overall looks a bit 'stodgy' to me. The center beam between the hood halves is a channel shape to drain water away which can rust out, taking the chrome strip above it first. The "Floating Power" was more than just rubber engine mounts; it had a "Torque Tube" encasing the driveshaft which was solidly mounted to both the transmission and the rear differential housing. Due to slight angle differences and to allow for flex it was necessary to incorporate a joint for the driveshaft in front, but it wasn't a "U-joint" as we know them. It constituted of a pin with two rotating balls, one on either side, which ran inside of a outer housing with channels molded in to allow for fore-and-aft movement of the balls which it engaged with. These were known for wearing out since you couldn't get at it to add grease without first dropping the torque tube and driveshaft. The pin and balls both wore and were replaced together, and the pin had to be pressed in and out at a shop. You set the depth of the pin by gauging it with a penny, leaving about 1/16" extra sticking out. These engines were known for being good on fuel mileage and very long-lasting, probably due to not having much stress at the power levels it had. This is probably the very first "runs forever" engine design. They also came with an interesting anti-theft feature which tells me that this car has had the ignition coil replaced. The original would have not had an exposed electrical connection for power which make 'hot-wiring' easy; instead there was a molded-on cover and an armored flexible cable running all the way to the ignition switch inside which was similarly covered. That whole assembly was one piece and part number so if the coil or switch went bad you had to replace them both together. You could not 'hot-wire' these cars to steal them with that system. Since the coil was a standard size, when it went bad everyone just ditched the armoring, put a normal coil in, and ran a new wire to the switch as a cheaper and easier fix like this car has. You'll almost never see one with the armoring intact now, but it can be saved in a coil swap though it ain't easy. Whoever bought this car new was a lucky rascal for the good fuel mileage would soon be needed when the war came to us and fuel rationing began. Plus it was new enough to survive the scrap metal drives of the war which made many old cars disappear forever. It's a nice car and who doesn't love old convertibles?
