I love 50's fashion, it's so classy and no men looked them up and down constantly, it looks so polished and beautiful. Even though girdles probably weren't the best.

The 40s and 50s were classy. The 60s started off ok. Women looked like women and men like I at least was taught respect for women and girls, you never hit a girl, you never swore in front of a girl, you gave a lady a seat on he bus or train and opened a door for a woman. Even today my wife of 40 years likes me to open the car door etc. But to see nice skirts and dresses was so lovely. Even in school in the 60s the girls wore pretty shoes and vows and ribbons. And how,lovely was Audrey Hepburn.

My grandmother wore 40s and 50s style clothing and she looked exactly like a Hollywood movie star-you’d have never known she was another beautiful woman,but she’d have made a wonderful Hollywood movie star. She had a natural look,and was never a movie star,but she was more beautiful than any lady actress and she never wore any makeup like a Hollywood actresses did.

We are going to be watching this for homeschool. Yes we did notice that everyone is white, not only in this video, but in all videos from this time. This is educational in and of itself. My daughter is euro- Moroccan/arabic, so we have discussed race. These videos are very valuable some show attitudes toward women as well. My daughter loves fashion and period clothing and she also has asked me what things cost then, I'm so glad you included that. Thankyou

No, I've seen several other montage videos (not fashion ones specifically) from the 1950s and earlier decades that have black and Asian people in them. Check out Recollection Road's decade montages and just random videos of pedestrians from various eras. Heck, I even saw one such video from 1904 or so that had a white and a black guy walking down the street together, and another one from the 1930s where a black little girl and a white little girl were eating together in a park. Moreover, there are whole KZbin channels that just have photos of black Americans from the past. You really ought to broaden your perspective. Just two examples: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKmkhX2ci5aHarc kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnWYfpKkaMaJbMk

Notice none of them had tattoos, stretched ears, swore, smoked pot or drank excessively. Those truly were the good times, classy people. No one has class now a days. I don't mean you have to be a prude, but you also don't have to be a scumbag either.
@eiram20066 жыл бұрын
tattoos and stretched ears I'll give you, but swore, smoked pot or drank excessively? How do you know? These were still pictures, a split second of these people's lives. You have no idea the smoking, drinking or swearing habits of any of these people.

And how do you know they did smoke pot or drank excessively. There's no drinking or smoking marijuana in any of the pictures. There's also no swearing in any of the pictures as well.

Hardly anyone, during the 1940s and 50s smoked pot and swearing was highly socially unacceptable for young women. Chuy83's assessment is historically accurate.

nefferthewonderpup I didn't even notice. I took these pics from Pinterest. I'm from Canada and a first generation immigrant. Are you from the U.S.? Here in Canada we don't really look at people and judge them for their colour. I just liked the outfits, not the skin colour of the person. I find this question very odd in reference to where I'm from.
@wonderfeline6 жыл бұрын
Shesasupergeek You mean there are not any people of color in Canada? (joking) Where were your family from? I live in the US. I have several Ladies Home Journal magazines from the late 1940's, and the pages of those only show Anglo/white people, too. It's very strange to look at the advertisements and articles from women's magazines of that time -- hilarious but kind of horrible, too. =}

I was born in South America, Chile to be exact. I am also part Native as well. This video all started out with my mom asking me to find some of the fashions that she used to wear. I saved them for her so she could look at the video when she wanted to.
