What people don’t talk about is the so called “freaks” loved their job it gave them a freedom that they usually wouldn’t have They were upset when their profession ended and they were out of work

Not all of them. I am sure that most were too prideful for this and felt insulted by the ones that did this kind of work. It is also important to consider that their jobs reinforced the insulting perspective the rest of society had on them, so all things considered, ending that profession was a net good.

The real answer: after the Depression Coney Island lost some of its popularity. The neighborhood started to decline as well: Coney Island was never exactly a clean place to live; lots of gambling, underground gambling and the mob. The way it was run was that a person was responsible for his or her own private ride. Eventually some got too expensive to operate, plus changes in safety codes. Robert Moses was also a culprit. That man was an idiot and what you see on Coney Island now are old housing projects that he put up. Where they stand now used to be part of the Amusement park. Moses stupidly crammed a bunch of very poor and very desperate people into a small area, rhen added a healthy heap of social upheaval and crime, similar to what happened with Cabrini Green in Chicago: by the 1970s, you can imagine why the area looked like a war zone. And the true cherry on top of the shit cake was Fred Trump, Donald Trump's father: he destroyed the very last of Steeplechase park. When this newsreel was taken, Coney Island would've had three classic wooden roller coasters: The Tornado, The Thunderbolt, and The Cyclone. Alas, by the time the movie the Warriors was shot, the Tornado got destroyed by fire. The thunderbolt, the original one, can only now be seen in the movie Annie Hall: it stopped operating in 1986. Giuliani illegally tore it down in the 90s. The cyclone is the only one left. It's nearly 100 years old. Go ride it. She's an old girl, she's kind of Choppy, but she is one of a kind.

@@marykatherinegoode2773 No it was mostly health concern honestly would you find it safe to go on a ride where you are on a skinny circle with a car seat belt and have to rely your life on gravity to keep you on the ride? No if these rides were still around today nobody would go to it because it’s a literal death trap besides the crazy daredevils, The only reason they even had riders was because at the time people were struggling and to cope with what was going on they decided to try out their luck which is kind of the only reason why Conley island is still around…

This was a better choice then going into the State Hospital as so many did as they needed care. This was a life they could experience some freedom at being around the same people who understood what they dealt with emotionally and physically and they were friends. The hospital would have treated them as Throw always no one wanted and would receive the littlest of care and treated as animals without feelings.

But on the other hand this was giving them a job and giving them some self empowerment. The alternative was to shut them away, out of sight and force them to live on the meager amount of money (if any) they got from social assistance. They weren’t slaves forced into this. They said they loved it. It gave them a community of peers that accepted them and they felt good that they were able to be self sufficient. There are always two sides to every coin.
