Wow beautiful. Shows the original 6 volt electrical works just fine, you don't need to change it to 12 volt. Great to see your original gauges work

Everyone is usually ga ga over the Ford V8 (65 HP) but this Caddy (150 HP) sounds so good and over 2X as powerful.

Brings back lots of memories... my first car was a '41 Caddie, but not at all pristine as your car...
@victordohleman9536 күн бұрын
I had a 41 62 series 4 door sedan at 16 in 1981. I remember staring at the flathead hoping to get it running somehow. Dad said you get it running and you can drive it. I killed it by putting an electric fuel pump and added too much gas and ruined something inside.Traded it for a VW rabbit with blowby. Back then smog was passable with blue smokers. Old cars are really time markers for car guys. Reminds you of what was going on when you owned this or that machine.

One of my ex bosses, RIP, had a 42 ragtop. It was so smooth and quiet, you had to look at the fan to see if it was turning. He had it down to a local dealer who was involved in a local car show. The solenoid was giving trouble and they did not have one. Boss sent me down there, I pulled the starter, pulled the solenoid apart, cleaned or reversed the contact disk, and THEY WERE PISSED!! I showed up their fancy mechanics. I am 76

This is why Cadillac defined American luxury.

Sadly, not anymore. German cars took over the luxury car market.

You need to drive a 1940 V-16 Allison/Cadillac roadster with a HydroMatic like my late employer had. He was a pre-WWII B-17 pilot upper-half Major in 1940. He posed his new bride on the front fender (a spare in each) on the Ellipse in Washington DC with the Washington Monument in the background (you could drive up there then!). He took a picture of her with his Kodak 620 Medalist Supreme camera on Kodacolor experimental film in 1940. In 1973 he dug it out, and the colors were BETTER than the original thanks to the 6th generation color paper. The tea-cup pistoned V-16 was only about 5.5 liter, but you can't feel one idling. Quite different than a 1938 Buick Roadmaster with 403 CID Inline 8 and Dyno-Flo non-shifting automatic! I worked with people that owned both, and I've driven them and the only Packard Twin-Six (1939) boat-tailed coupe in the SW. I have SEEN the 1940 Chrysler V-12 GlideShift Premier (pre-Imperial) vacuum shifter three-speed (hydro-centrifugal clutch). I cannot IMAGINE the Duesenberg SJ Miller in-line 8 401cid with a Bendix supercharger .Clark Gable and his wife Carole Lombard had matching boat-tailed "chopped" (lowered top) roadsters built at an estimated cost of $500,000 1938 Depression dollars! The late George Harrah drove one of them daily 90-odd miles round-trip and put 800,000 miles on the stock engine with NO RE-BUILDS. 97.8% of ALL Duesenbergs built are STILL ROADWORTHY-the most durable and reliable cars ever made.

I bet that Cadillac is about 1000 times better quality than any "Cadillac" built in 2024.

Let's not exaggerate now. Maybe only 100 times better. And how many 2024 Cadillacs do you think will still be on the road in the year 2107?

@HumberNorton17 күн бұрын
It's an auction. The price is what the bidders decide, as long as it hits the reserve, which is never revealed in a reserve auction, or it would be pointless to have one. But the reserve is very fair! Check it out!

I believe the engine is a V-8 as it has that configuation. A 'flathead' is exactly that...a long, flat engine head. Flathead V-8? Can't be.
@HumberNorton2 күн бұрын
Tom: It IS a "Flathead" V8.The term "Flathead" has nothing to do with length. I have flathead single-cylinder vintage motorcycles.The term refers to the fact that if you turn the head over, you will see it is perfectly flat. There are no combustion chambers carved into the head like OHV (Overhead Valve) engines, and there are no valve pockets or valves up in the head, either. The valves are on the side, in the block (hence the additional term "sidevalve" engine). So you can have a flathead single, twin, triple, straight, inline 4, or V4, V8...even flathead V12s! So this Flathead V8 has two banks of inline flathead V4s on a common crankcase arranged in a "V" formation. Presto! A "Flathead V8!"

Yeah! Because I don't know, are Caddy flatty's very rare? Better choice for a hot rod eh?
@Walkercolt116 күн бұрын
Unbelievably rare!!! The Lincoln flathead (post war version) is the "Hot-Rod Lincoln" of rock-n'-roll fame. Strangely, the post War Chrysler 413 CID "Imperial" flat-head V-8 never got much play except for a couple of three and four engined LSR attempts.
