1942 BSA WM20 WWII Motorcycle - Restore and Ride!

I restored this 1942 BSA WM20 back in 2006 and recorded only a few videos and photos at that time. (Flathead Terry's Channel wasn't started then!). I forgot I even had these on some old mini VHS tapes I was going thru so most of the graphics are in the old 4:3 format but what the heck!

Hi Terry, my friend just rode his 1938 BSA to my house. After 30 mins yapping he tried to re start it to go home. It took him about 15 minutes of kickstarting it to get it going. In a nutshell what could be somethings that cause that. Cheers NZ.

Hey John, its a problem with the Magneto. Mine had the same problem when it got hot, it had a very weak or no spark at all. A rebuilt magneto will provide happier riding!

Take a look at the magneto,specifically the condensor...or it coud be a microscopic break in the windings if it only likes to start from cold.

Little tip if you leave a BSA M20 for a while. oil seeps into the crankcase if left so undo the little screw or nut in the crank case and drain the oil you can put it straight back in the oil reservoir.

Yes, 1st gear up, the rest down. Completely opposite of American bikes!

Hey mate, im about to start retsoring a wm20 here in australia and cant find any paint codes for the correct green. I was wo deirng if you still know what the paint codes were for the bike? I assume it was no3 olive drab? Cheers

Hey CoffeeStain! I don’t have specific paint codes, but instead I ordered Flat Olive Drab paint (Spray Cans) from a military paint company here in the States. The Olive Drab color shades vary from each paint manufacturer during the War and today so this was the best option after extensive research online. Best of luck with your WM20! They a fun bikes.
